View Full Version : alpha map shadows ?
renaissance01 05-09-2007, 02:04 PM hey guys...i know this is a stupid question but anyway, i hope someone can help. I have a wire fence alpha map on a plane and i'm trying to get the shadows cast to be referenced to the alpha map not the plane. Everytime it's rendered, the shadow is just the shadow of the plane rather than the alpha mapped fence...I'm using 3ds max 8. How do i fix this ?

Use raytraced shadows, be aware tht this will increase render times. To avoid this you may try to turn off shadow casting for the plane and use an extra light with a shadow projection map using the opacity map of the fence. Requires some tweaking

If you really like DMap shadows you can rebuild the object if it's not to complicated. Set the new object to cast shadows but not render. Set the old object to render but not cast shadows.
