View Full Version : 1992 Honda Prelude
Hmooboi06 05-09-2007, 04:32 AM Hey guys. Heres a picture i did for my FVP camera and lighting class. The objective is to make a movie poster/dvd cover. My idea here came from Tokyo Extreme Racer video game series.

Heres mine concept of this. A little bit different, but couldn't have made it possible with the help of the picture above.

This is a picture of my car. I add the front and side kit along with the hood Wish i could have dont' somthing with the rims, but I don't know yet. I still kept the title the same, just a little bit different and with the city breng from tokyo extreme racer.

Your poster lacks the two main things that I think make the Tokyo Extreme Racer poster good: A dramatic angle and good typography. The low angle is interesting and catches one's attention, the text is also eye-catching but not difficult to read.
The angle in yours is quite boring, it's the angle we usually see cars at, it looks almost Auto-Trader-ish. A lower angle, or perhaps the same one, but a closer shot might be more eye-catching. The idea behind more unusual shots is that the viewer's attention is cought by something they haven't seen, they don't know what it is. This makes them turn and actually look instead of glancing, then they see it's a car (this is why you can't go too extreme either, it has to be identifiable), and then the composition must lead their eye to the text or whatever you want them to see. Note how in the TExR poster/banner, the car creates vectors that lead the eye to the text. While you have a little bit of that going on, it's nowhere near as effective.
You might want to repaint the reflections, too. Right now it's obvious that the hood and bumper are from a different car, there is a difference in color and a more obvious difference in reflections. There seems to be a watermark on the front, too. That usually means you're not even supposed to use the image xP
The text is what really ruins this, I think. It's difficult to read and doesn't fit very well with the style of the rest of the image. Try something slightly blockier, but play around with it.
Some misc things... the reflection on the floor should be lowered, it doesn't match the car currently. The background city is interesting, but quite possibly illegal to use for an image (since it's from a game, though I'm not sure how copyrights on screenshots go), and it detracts from the layout not by actually being bad, but simply by not helping at all. It does not enforce the perspective on the car, nor does it draw attention to anything other than itself.

I would have to agree with eishiya on all points made, except maybe the effectiveness of the city. While the copyright issues may be an issue if you were to reproduce and sell the image, they are generally not an issue with class work.
1. I like the city, it fits with the theme you're going for.
2. I agree the dynamic angle of the original is what makes the picture worth looking at.
3. You do have a two tone car going on there... try to just be creative with your own car or maybe tone your additions to match your car.
4. The text has got to change. You may have been going for sleek and stylish but it isn't working right now. Play around with the fonts and see what comes up.
5. (and I didn't see this at first) Your floor/ground relection is off... heck, you may not even need it.
One last thing, try to take your city on the right side and make it reflect on your car. That would really tie the two together.

YeaH, the background of the city is from the game txr, but i don't plan on reproducing this because it was an assignment from a class and yeah, the text really didn't go with this to. I tried every text possble I could with it to make it more exciting, but couldn't find one. So I guess I'll have to go over it all again. Theres definitely two tone for this car too and you can actually see it
Sullaford, what do you mean by "take your city on the right side and make it reflect on your car," this I don't understand.
Thanks for the help guys. I'll fix it over and repost it.

Well, kind of what I'm getting at is when I'm looking at the car, I feel I should see some part of the enviroment reflecting in that high gloss finish (you see the guard rail in your red car reference?). Basically, If you could put a mask over a mirror image of the city scene and make it shaped to the car and reduce the opacity, maybe to get the car color to show through, it would feel like the car is there in the enviroment.
Edit: OH OH, I just noticed this! I see trees in the window parts of your car... wierd.

Okay, took both of you adive and did everything I could think of to it, but still haven't found the right text for it yet. Do any of you know how I can change the rims on this car?If not, then its okay...

I like the update. One more thing I noticed... It looks like daylight in a desert with some guy's face reflected on the headlights. Does anyone else see this?
