How would you go abouts making convincing cobwebs? I don't need them to move or react to anything I just want them to look good. Any ideas? I've tried playing with alpha maps with no success.

Thanks again,
David

have you tried some fractal noise on a transparent polygon? not sure what you're doing but it's quick and easy

i just...
1.went into photoshop
2. made a black background, painted a bunch of random, thin, white lines.
3. selected the white areas and used them for my alpha.
4. paint a low opacity brush over the whole thing on alpha channel. ( gives a little transparency)
5.save as 32 bit targa for your color
6. paint some more random lines over the selected area in the alpha channel ( to break up the original lines)
6. save that as your spec. ( 32 bit targa again)

then just plug your color and spec passes into a reflective shader and you should get a web that you get highlights off of when the camera moves while not being able to see the entire thing at once because of the different transparency.

hope that made sense let me know if you need any more help
