View Full Version : TP: Obj Attributes, Particle by Particle
BoERS 03-13-2003, 10:03 PM Howdy folks!
I am attempting to do some crazy particle effects, but it would be much easier if I could set the attributes of the particle shape on a particle by particle basis.
I would like to be able to set material tag attributes for the shape of each particle, specifically designed for each particle... does anybody know how to do this?

currently TP has no direct control over texture on a per particle basis, however on my website there's a workaround using the particle ag parameter, based on the fact that with age you can control which part of the original particles lifespan you're seeing.
of course this doesn't allow for particles needing to have different states during their lifetime :(
anyhow the example is there in the renderzone section of my website

an alternative method is to use lots of different particle geometry objects and swap particle groups. i believe there's an eaxmple of doing thigns this way floating around somewherre.

Unfortunately, it would be very impractical to make a different object for every state and then swap them with groups... I am looking at probobly 10000+ different states, all of which would need to be defined during frame 1...
Thanks anyways, mdme!

So you only want to be able to apply an arbitrary material to a given particle when it is turned into an object? What is the basis for the material index?
