Onley 2 things i can comment.
More ram would help, closer to 4gig but that can always be obtained later on.
You should be aware of that 8800 cards have driver issues with OpenGL, more in vista than Xp. ex Maya has hard time with those cards, slow viewport performace and redraw problems (both vista and Xp). Direct3d is wery fast, ex in 3dsmax as it is D3D application.
But with 158.22 drivers OGL has gotten litle better.. for me anyway. Im sure all these problems will be fixed after Nvidia gets good drivers out.
Im sure u will be happy with that rigg !

i would just say you definitely need more ram or you'll find yourself getting a tad hamstrung as your ambition increases, it's not expensive for teh newer machines these days so get yourself a nice meaty stick and stick it in (ooer missus), you'll really appreciate the difference (especially when you're zipping between your 3d program and image editor messing with textures)

whats up everybody.excuse punctuation im trying to type this fast. so recently I graduated school with an associates of science degree in graphic design and multimedia. I learned a surplus of programs(flash, photoshop, illustrator, dreamweaver, quark most important 3ds max). 3d really caught my eye and i have been dedicating all my free time to that these days. my school has taught these programs but nothing about computers or hardware thats good for big renders that i would eventually like to accomplish in 3d. to the point, I was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of the perfect setup for a work space including everything i need from a monitor to gfx cards. i plan on building it in dell and am willing to spend from 2100 to 3100 USD. so any help greatly appreciated.
P.S. sorry i wrote more than i really had 2
