of smoke(for a rocket)?
Do I use cloudSW our what?
This is my best, I can't make it to look sharp and realistic...

looks ok to me! As I remember there's a raymarching plug-in at highend that might give you better results (so your smoke can be self-shadowing and that).

emm.. you dont need a raymarching plugin from highend..
for software cloud particles just turn on the surface diffuse value in the self shadow section, create a light with ray trace shadows on and ray trace the smoke..
that will give self shadowing

oops...dumbass...didn't know it could do that!:)
Also Fluids in Maya 4.5 Unlimited are great for smoke if you have access to it.

yes I have Maya 4.5 but I don't know how to make with fluids? Is there on thed net some kind of tutorila?

so what then.. the ppl press F1 and write down their question before the explorer with the help has fully loaded :)
