Hey guys.

This character right here is for a small pre-rendered game (somewhat of an RPG) that my brother and I are working on.

The graphics will be 3D, but rendered in to sprites.

The inspiration was mostly from the Tales of… series by Namco.

Because it's pre-rendered I didn't worry too much about the poly count.
He still needs a helmet and sword, which once I have created, I will post here.

It was done in 3D studio max using Ink n Paint.

wouldn't it be more interesting to pre render only the scenes, but not the characters, like square did in early ff games or like in "evil dead"
i like combination of 2d graphix and 3d characters very much^^

Yes, that would be very cool. Except I have more experience working with 2D programming systems than 3D ones.

I can do just pure 3D, or 2D... it would be very hard to intergrate the two together.

His face is very blurry, and doesn't quite read as "male," but it looks pretty good. The feet look kind of weird as just blobs of color. You might want to add buckles for his shoes or something like that.

I want a little too blur crazy with the face texture, I'll be sure to sharpen that up. Maybe make him look a little more pissed, that could make him more manly.

I'm planning on making him have boots, I'll ad buckles.

I'll try to smooth the hair out a bit more and make the tip sharper. Her body and face are looking nicely rounded and her hair blockyness is really sticking out imo.

Okay, I'll start to fix the hair now.

Edit:
Here is the sword so far.

It's going to be a lot cooler when it's done, but this is just the first draft.

Here is the sharper hair, and the boots.

I'm gunna work a little more on the boots and the hair, but this is them so far.

Well he's almost finished, I'll post some renders later.

I started the next character in the series today, a female. I'll post her pictures here once her clothes are finished.

I just finished making the draft of the games meny systems.

The colors may be off due to the low pictuer quality.

Conversations in the game will look something like that, but with finished models and a background.

Comments very welcome!

It's still pretty basic... I think I'll out some sort of flowing magic effect in the background in it.

Very Sweet model indeed! Did you use a toon shader of sorts or what for this guy?
My only crit would be to sharpen his jawline, because he still reads as a chick.
Tight stuff though. May I ask what program your using to compile the 3d models into sprites? I've been courious about a program like that for awhile.

Good idea about the jaw line, i'll give it a try.

As for the sprites, they're just bit maps with alpha channels.
I'm not handeling the programming, so I don't know how it's being done.

Hi:

I like it. The style is some sort into chibi and lego but if you want to do a zoom, then you can put more details into, specially in the face (for example the eyes can be real spheres rather a single texture, now this render looks a bit unexpressive), also the globes (or hands) is a bit plain.

it remembered me when dreamcast was out and jet set radio graphics make it apparition... very creative... you can post the blog or page were you're going to put the game...
