I have a seagate external hard drive that inexplicably stopped working. The power suply seems fine - the light is on - but for some reason when i plug it in via usb the computer has stopped seeing it and i get a 'power surge on usb port' message. In device manager, with the hard drive plugged in, there is nothing listed for that port. The usb port works fine with other hardware, and the dive has the same problems on other computers. I desperately need to get this hard drive working as it has a lot of work stored on it. is this a common problem? is it easily resolved? any help would be greatley appreciated, thanks.
