View Full Version : SSS Mental Ray 'noisy' bump problem

Hey all!

I'm having a small problem setting up the fast_skin shader for Mental Ray.

I'm using Maya 7 on a mac. I tested the bump map on a simple blinn and it looked fine. When I import my bump map into the SSS shader it looks very 'noisy'. When I turn filtering off I get black spots in certain areas. I find I have to set my bump very low but it starts to lose some of the other details. Is this a common problem? I think I read some where that the black spots are to do with the mac platform and bump maps created on PC don't seem to have this problem. Is the 'noisy' bump a mac side effect too?

Help on this much appreciated!!

Have you tried turning ON the 'Export With Shading Engine' option in the shading group of your fast skin?

Seems I have some other issues too. No back scatter despite using the scale converter too, unable to plug in light maps. Aaagh! Time to upgrade from Maya 7 me thinks!!
