View Full Version : The Hapless Hero/Villian - Character - Taos
Alright, I'm in. You all know me more as a programmer, but I have this itch to model something again (it's been too long). So here's my idea.
I want to do a kid hero. Remeber when you used to tie a bath towel around your neck and put your underwear outside your pants? That's the hero I'm making, but the difference is, this kid thinks he seriously is a hero. His real downfall is that he's only 3 years old and hasn't quite grown into his costume yet. I'll flesh out the idea as I go along I guess.
I do have one issue though with the rules:
7) fur plugins are allowed. Longer hair HAS to be either modelled or clip/opacity mapped.
I plan on using the hair plugin I wrote on this. I've put a ton of work into it and would like to test it out here. If this is ok, give me no sign. :)

erm, no:p
great idea and if it were up to me I would bend the rules because its your own hair plugin
erm, no
You deprived little boy. Go ahead, put your underwear outside your pants. No one will mind.

The idea is totally cool. As reference I would look into the book "Where the Whild Things Are" Same sort of concept, however your childs slightly younger which should add more comic interest....
BTW...I still dream of wearing my batman cape out in public but I fear jail/psych ward time. gl

I finished modeling the head and face (minus the ears) today, but I also made a maquette for the body tonight. Enjoy

man this is gonna be a really cool entry!
love the model man
here's the first wireframe for you all to gawk at. I have the rough shape of the body done and the head 90% done. I think I might scale it down just a bit more. I want it to have a cartoony large head, but that may be slightly too much.

hey cool. How'd you get from CG to clay? THat just for visualization purposes? Looks cool though. I like the original idea.
I break out the digital camera and take a profile and front view of the model. I also leave the models on my desk for visual reference while I'm modeling. It works very well for me. This way, I can work out any issues with a model in meat space before I start modeling it on the computer. It works out better for me than trying to sketch a side and front view by hand, because I never get the two views to line up properly.
Finished modeling. Time to UV. Also time to start attaching hair.

Hey Taos, Did you ever get the skinny on if you were allowed to use your custom, specially made hair plugin?
If it comes to votes I say yes!
The character looks good so far, but his "socky feet" need to look more socky. Just flatten and wrinkle it up a bit.
The face will look a lot better once you post him with eyes, but I do reccomend you flesh out/build up his lips a little more. The top of his head should be bigger as well. Right now he doesnt seem to have a forehead.
Keep it up...!
