First of all, I'm planning on asking the sales guy if I can buy this laptop with XP instead, but anyway, here are the main details.

Vista Premium

Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0ghz 4mb L2 Cache

15.4" 1280x800 screen

256 Nvidia GeForce(r) Go 7400

2gb DDR2 System Memory

120gb 5400rpm SATA drive

DVD burner

Here's a review,

Basically, the computer will be used for computer science classes, 3d animation, compositing, and audio editing. :)

Anyone have one of these? I was looking at the Mac Book Pro laptops, but I can't justify the price for what you get.

My desktop is a Core 2 Duo e6400, 8800gtx, 2gb DDR2, Asus P5B Deluxe wifi. It's great, but I can't carry it around. :D

My hp laptop battery died 2 weeks ago. After much testing and back and forth e-mail they say they can get me one by the end of June. :(

It was nice while it lasted.

But anyway, I am going to buy a higher capacity one most likely. Your specs look very good.

For what its worth Asus sells a laptop that is 14" wide screen has the same CPU and has a Geforce 7600GT/7700 in it. Worth a look IMO.

Granted you cant just go to the store to get one like you can with the HP... but still.

Cool, I'll look into that. I probably wouldn't mind a smaller screen, as I have had laptops with larger screens, and they become tedious to carry around. However, I'm hoping for at least 1280x800, as I have a 1024x768 laptop now and it's horrible trying to work with. :)

Also, I don't plan of buying one in a story anyway, so that's no biggy.

helluva bargain (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220123)if you ask me. The reviews say that it comes with 1 - 1gb stick of ram so adding another to get you to 2gigs is easy as pie and it's WXGA [1440x900].

Wow, a 14" screen and 1440x900, that'd be nice, especially after turning up DPI settings since it's a small screen. :) Thanks for the link and recommendation.

We have a 17 inch HP laptop at work and just to warn you the screen is terrible its so dull and the reflective finish on it is far too glossy for a dull screen its really quite difficult to get a good view of it never mind getting good coulour reproduction. I have a Fujitsu Siemens 17 laptop at home and it rocks - it was cheaper than the work one - has a much better spec and the quality (screen icluded) is awesome - I couldn't find one of similar spec within £200 when i was looking and the quality is 1st class honestly. Just my thoughts anyway

Hey,

Do you know what the resolution is of the one at work?

There are three options for the 17" HPs, and apparently whoever ordered it didn't pick the "ultrabright" screen which is about $150 more than the standard price. :)

It was bought before i started. Seems odd they have a dull screen and a normal screen they must be calling ultrabright and charging more for it! its a 1440 x 900 screen and probably about a year old now. I would def go for the ultrabright then but I would just cast your eyes over some of the Fujitsu Siemens models first. I would go for one over an HP everytime on value and performance. I don't think they usually do the very top end on processors mine is about 8 months old and it is a Core2 2ghz but they offer the best gaming cards mine is an X1800 and I think they have a X1900 with a high res screen one last time i looked. Also 2gig of Ram was standard on mine.

Anyway its your call, just letting you know my experience for what its worth.
