ok

im going to do the sketch-dyslexic CGTalk-Challenge Participant. cause thats how i feel right now.

but actually i´m kind of toying with the idea of SharkMan, who is afraid of the water, some guy in trunks with a fin tied to his back and a shark helmet, standing at the water afraid to go in.
additionally he will have some of those inflatable wings and a swim ring...

humm hummm.. i´ll try some more sketching otherwise i will post the sketch i whipped up first. har

Stimpy

well in the final piece i HOPE to alter his physique a bit, that he will have a rather small lower body and this big muscled chest, so that it contrasts with those little inflatable wings thingies..

thats supposed to be a helmet on his head, btw.. maybe i shouldve put in an opening at the bottom. my bad.

so, finally started modelling.. first pic here now...

i am not QUITE happy with it, and its still missing that bone on the inside of the feet, if you know which one i mean, forgot about it but am finished with it for today.. besides theres not going to be a close up of them anyway.. style i was aiming for was a bit stylized, turned out more realistic i think than i originally planned.

sorry for the hulk colors.. :D

Hey stimps!

The feet look a lot better than before!

Now, let's see the rest of him!;)

Stimpy: The sketch served it's purpose quite well. You conveyed your theme very well. It's also a funny theme. His aqua-phobia and who he is makes this a true contradiction with a capital "C". That's what makes it sooooo very funny.

The feet look good, nice job. I think as you say this model should get a more toon or caricature type exxagerated touch. Create a more "Bulbous" tip to the toes perhaps?:)

Well Stimpy I'll check on you later, you have a nice concept and a good modeling start thus far.

Baaaaaah! And you said you couldn't model feet!:D

Great, but the toes could possibly be a bit more rounded.

Wow nice legs - I would be very interested in seeing the cage for them....

Stimpy
03-28-2003, 01:18 PM
as promised a small update.. mostly right now trying to get the arm muscular structure right.. what a bitch..

didnt focus too much yet on the pecs..

http://home.t-online.de/home/520014397907-0001/upper3.jpg

and then a small small test on the legs to see how much i can distort my model for a more cartoonish look, since its turning out far more realistic than i wanted it to..

Looks fine to me. A nice style.
Did you want it to look realistic? Otherwise, I'd stick to the way they are!

Stimpy
03-28-2003, 01:36 PM
well, what i have in my mind is different to how it looks like right now. im kind of aiming for a style like in the lower pic, but a bit more distorted, especially the general proportions.

but first i need to get the modelling itself done, and then i can worry about stretching and pulling. :)
otherwise im afraid it might never look right.

Hum,... it seems like you need a detailled sketch,...
Try to search around internet references about what are you exactly trying to do (and where you're doing! keep your own style of course!). But I really think you don't have the ideas clear enought,.. in your skecth, the hero looks goofy, but you've modeled a quite strong body (and volumed legs)!

I guess all you've model (overall the feet and legs) have already the good clean and enough mesh to become in a great cartoon (more cartoon) character so just make clear your ideas on your mind and you will be able to show us what are you thinking for this challenge!

A general advice would be you do first really simple and effective main shapes, exactly like a structural skelleton of bones (biped,...). Spend in this part all the time you need and the work on the details... ;) Not start each part already detailled (not always it works!)

That's "all"! I really want this help you! :)

see you!

I like the feet stimpy :)

Stimpy I think that is very good advice from Pabbloz........ It seems to me that you are kind of in-between the real and toon Worlds with him. I think for this charcater and theme you have chosen you would be better served to go the toon route. That's just a humble opinion.

What you are showing is quite good in modeling. But the direction seems off. Have you decided on which type or style you are going for.The concept showed more of a Toon theme, but the latest modeling shows a realistic and more muscular theme.

Perhaps you can keep this character in-between the real and toon Worlds..............Just exxagerate the proportions more. Shorter here, longer there, you know what I mean.

Well anyways,so far so good,it's a WIP,and with more time I think you will have something to be proud of,you are getting there, keep at it.

i.e, stop this poly by poly modelling bs and download wings.

wings schmings, empty your dumb mailbox krugar... says its full.

pabbloz and Virtuoso: thanks a lot for your comments. very much appreciated. i know im kind of stuck with him, but i DO have some kind of master plan (hope i can follow through though). i do plan on exaggerating his proportions once i am done with him, but right now trying to follow the realistic reference that i have and when i am finished with it, then stretch and squash him. i did a short rigging + posing test yesterday and it kind of looked like i wanted it to look. test looked too crappy tho to show anyone. :) i am kind of looking into the direction of johnny bravo (http://mag.awn.com/issue7.08/7.08images/wright01_johnnyBravo.gif) for proportions.

so we will see. right now im mostly fighting with anatomy since thats the first time ive ever done something like this.

the realism to the model shape is nice, really excited to see the deformed proportions, I love stylized modelling, think it is coming along wonderfully as far as the model goes
