I've been modeling "this", which is supposed to be a guy. Ok, when my boss showed the wip (here shown) it was told that it more female than male. I would like to know which features I'm missing, which ones I should take into account when building this model. Why does it looks "female-ish"?

I know this may not sound helpful but sometimes it is only a matter of ones personal opinion that it looks more like a female head. If you add textures and hair it may look much more male. You may want to try a more blocky looking features. Men normally have blocky features while women have more rounded soft features.

texturing and the completed character can help the audience decide but if you want to make the character a little more masculine you can try to make a larger more defined jaw and a larger/heavier brow... you could also add an adam's apple... just some quick thoughts... good luck...

True! I can't understand why he told you that it seem female. It is just an empty face. Draw some black eyebrows only and you have a man already.

Besides what has been said, try making the jaw bones and muscles stronger. Also the nose is "turned up" to much. Make it more "downwards".
Hope that helps

I think it is mainly the lips. They look pursed. And as E_Moelzer said, the upturned nose.

I don't see how this could be construed as female...I don't see any breasts yet.

Maybe mention that to your boss.

I also think it's the lips. They should be somewhat more 'manly' ? lol.

Good luck!

grow him a beard or moustache.

if your boss still mistakes the model as female, then there's something wrong....

Ok, here it goes. When my boss showed the first one, which had a beard, the client asked for a beardless one. When my boss showed him the new one, the client asked for a less 'gay' character. Maybe it's the mouth and the nose as you guys said. The lips are somewhat pinched or thightened. Well, I'm reworking it on monday, I'll post a new one then. Thanks everyone.

I think that it is the pointed ness of the lips, and the nose, from the front view, needs to be wider at the nostril area. I made slight changes to the head shape in the Front and Side views. Mainly the jaw and nose (front) and the shape of the back of the head in the side view. Cheers...

Hmmm...I really wouldnt say it's a modeling problem but more or less an art issue. My question to you would be .... "Do you draw regularly?"

Meaning, that having the ability to draw and understand human anatomy bodes well when modeling. Your more likely to produce something easier which in turn ends up with the essence of what your end goal is if your an traditional artist. Soley my opinion and my two cents.

Just squaring off the model in places like the nose, lips and jaw would have helped.

Good luck

Masculine nose bridge (nose part between eyes) is wider and stronger than feminine one. Males have stronger cheek and jaw bones. Females have thin layer of fat under skin which makes their lines more curvateus as oposed to bulgy males (especially asian women).
There is a lot anatomical differences between typical male and female (not only breasts, which are most obvious ones).

If you don't know these "generic" things about anatomy and would suggest you using good references instead of trying to model male or female head from your imagination.

However, I think your boss is wrong. Your model is whether very pretty male or very ugly female :)

Cheers
