Thanks for reading yet another LCD thread.

After suggesting a purchase of 2407FPW DELL for 500 pounds at job, I've today been offered a SyncMaster 214T instead which is about 400 pounds here and I was wondering if that's a smart choice since I couldn't find any much info about it neither on the web nor here.

There's a DELL 2007FPW for a hundred pounds less that I've heard a lot more good things about. Can anybody give a helpful hand here? Should I go for 2007FPW, stick with the SyncMaster or is there a third option within, say, 450 pound price range?

I would go for as much screen real estate as possible, which would put out the 2007fpw.

Of the other two, we use Samsung 214T at work and they are great. With the Samsung, you're going to get a resolution of 1600 x 1200. With the Dell 2407, you're going to get about 1920 (?) x 1200 -- so the same height for both, but you get some extra side-to-side space with the Dell.

Personally, I kinda like having two 21" 1600 x 1200 side by side. Total screen space is 3200 pixels wide -- plus, putting menus and the like on a separate physical monitor just makes my organization feel better -- ergonomically speaking.

What kind of work will you be using it for? That would make a difference in choosing a wide format over a standard format.

It's gonna be used mostly for prints--Illustrator and Photoshop, that is. A little Maya and Combustion as well--but that shouldn't be taken in consideration. So I value colory accuracy slightly over real estate space (since Illustrator menus are not as much a problem as those in 3D applications, besides I often work in a menu-less environment) and refresh rate is not a factor whatsoever.
