I decided to give this one a try as well :)

Here is the WIP image after about 7 hours of work.

And here is the clean slate with the 50% extension.

nice work man!
also its interesting to know how long it takes people to do things, it helps me not feel to bad when it takes me ages ;)
one thing though i think with the extension you are meant to actually build the extra wall not just extend the canvas. [ah you added it, or at least it wasn't showing when i first looked :) ]
but maybe by not doing it you just skip that bit of the contest

uuuuhhh i like your concept really much, nice mood and good entry with the stony things on the bottom.

only little crit i have is that leftsided tree, maybe this one should be flow more to the focal point and i would love to see more ruins of london in the far background :)

greetings

We are definitely on the same wave lenght since I have thought about the exact same things. I will definitely fix the position of the tree on the left but I'm not sure about the london ruins on the bg since it might make the plate a bit too crowded.. The eye has already so much to look at as it is.

Here's a small update:
I modeled a basic tree in maya PLE and used it as a silhouette in the painting. This is the first time that I have ever used 3d in my paintings.

london is known for his foggy weather...so why donīt give a try to create only an imagination/silhouette from some buildings, hidden behind a wall of some semi-transparent fog in the far background!? in my opinion this would give you a lot more depth.

but maybe you are completly right with your statement about the too crowded plate, canīt really imagine yet, if the "fog-building-silhouette" would work nicely here. It is only one idea of thousands :)
