View Full Version : Getting the joint to move withthe mesh? How?

I understand how joints move and work but when I move a joint the mesh doesn't move. Can I get some help?

Some more detail would be helpful.
Are you on Maya? How did you bind your skin? Is there a complete skeleton underneath your geometry? Is it just one joint that is causing the problem?

Working with Maya, i honestly don't know what "skin" is (new to rigging), no skeleton, all joints are causing the problem.

Skinning is the process of binding your geometry to the joints so that it is deformed by your skeleton.
Select your geometry then your skeleton (the joint hierarchy) and do "Skin->Bind Skin->Smooth/Rigid Bind".
Now when you move and rotate your joints, the geometry should move with it.
Also it would be good to get familiar with the binding options.
