I remember seeeing that pic posted on this forum (when the guy posted his reeel). I remember he said he achieved that outline by taking the imagin into photoshop. I think you just remder the character on its own layer then got to photoshop, select the object and expand a few pixels. You will need a very smooth edge around the object to get a smooth line like that.
Feel free to correct me it this is wrong.

yeah i know that technique.... i can easily apply the "stroke" effect on the character using rendered alpha channels but that's for stills. I want to create this effect in a short animation. So the outline is going to be there throughout the whole animation.
anyway, someone replied in the softimage forum (i linked both threads together) and he helped me out... i tried the technique he told me and it's pretty much the effect i wanted to achieve. but im still constantly looking for more ways to make the effect more unique. thanx

in xsi u need to use the toon shader on the surface, and then to get the outlines you need to use the toon ink lense shader. have fun

Hey Array,
Lets get together for dinner sometime. Are you going to be at the SI XSI roadshow tomorrow night??
