Title: Water Tower
Name: Kim Berkeby
Country: Sweden
Software: 3ds max, Photoshop, VRay

This image is inspired by the great water tower next to the block where I live. I have taken many photos in the hunt for the right dimensions and the most realistic surfaces. The end result is nearly spot on the real deal.

The model is made in 3D Studio Max 9 and rendered with VRay 1.5.

I like it! Good lighting and very realistic
shading! The model looks good too...
Maybe the foreground is a little too
sharp for the slight blurry gackground.
Although... I like it... nicely done!

I have seen this water tower many times! :)
My girlfriends mother lives just next to it as well!

But I think you could do some more work on the enviroment. It looks like a lowres photo with jpeg compression. A little path and some bushes could do good in the foreground. Maybe some parts of the grass is longer, some could be brown and dead.
Could be nice to have a couple of cg trees in the background aswell.

But the tower itself looks really good. A splitting image of the original. Nice work.
It looks a bit like an alien ship. Would be cool with an animation when it takes of. Like in the MIB film.

Cool another artist from Sweden! :-)

I am happy you recognize the water tower. Thanks for the possitive input.

Also I am glad you put some constructive critics in your post.

The background actually is a enlarged photo. As I havenīt very much resources or a good camera, I couldnīt fix it in another way. Also my computer is REALLY slow, so I donīt even think of adding trees or grass geometry. It would kill my old friend. ;-) I really agree with you that it would look alot nicer.

amazing model! my only crit is the ground and the background, its obvious it took you a very long time to model that tower but the rest is so rushed, the grass looks like its just slapped onto a plane and the background is too obvious that is not part of it...just bad compositing!... but seriously nice job on the tower 4 stars!

Hmm Really nice modeling indeed..No doubt about that..In my humble opinion background can be improved as well as the scenario..Tower itself is really amazing..Great job wid the texturing modelling and lighting.,.Keep it up..Cheers:)

Thanks for all nice words and good tips on how I could improve my image. I guess you have right. I spend a pretty long time working on the tower, but now as much time working on the environment. I should think about this next time.

CaptainObvious: the thing you think is a car is just a stone! ;-) That explains why it is cut of. Also you watch the tower from below a hill. The camera is not ment to show the lowest part of the tower. Either way thanks for your input.

Howdy mr.kim. Nice model. The foreground grass and the background seem to have very sharp integration and not seamless. They are composited from different pictures? Rendering of the model is really good maybe improve the compositing to real images would make it better overall.
