Hi,
I'm pretty new to cgtalk and also cinema 4d and I was wondering if there is like a tutorial about box modeling for cinema 4d. I know some of the basics of box modeling and have read the part of the documentation for cinema 4d but i am getting confused about all that nurbs stuff and would like to work with box modeling or polygon modeling. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

for the very basics try the second HyperNURBS modelling tutorial in the Tutorials manual (page 56). This is in fact box modelling, just don't bother to add the Hypernurbs object, and ignore the stuff about weighting and this will show you some modelling techniques.

Unfortunately the old cinema 4d v7 tutorial manuals aren't online anymore as they were exceptionally good.

ok thanks, i will pay more attention to it when i reread that section. maybe in the future when i get good at c4d i could write a box modeling tut for those like me.:)

no you don't have to make me one. i was going to do it myself. also, i may just need your help with that tut. for some reason i don't think i got the part where you delete the points after you use the knife tool here is my work so far.

well, in the tut that prayas mentioned i think it used a sphere. please correct me if i am mistaken.

if you look at the object manager you will see that he starts out with a cube inside of a hypernurbs object, not a sphere. The hypernurbs object smooths any object put inside of it, this means that you cna make up a model with relatively few polygons, and hypernurbs will smooth it out and make it look like it is "higher density" (i.e. more polygons than it actually is). With just a cube, hypernurbs smooths out the cube to the point where it looks like a sphere pretty much.

Please go over the basic tutorials step by step in the manulas that come with cinema, these will furnish you with the basics that you need to get going. If you're the sort of person that skips bits then no tutorial on earth is going to help you.

Just take your time, do the tutorials, steo by steo, following what's written on the page (which can sometimes seem to go against what's showin in the diagrams when your'e starting out). Dont miss out any steps, once you've got these tutorials under your belt you should be ready to try something a little more complex. Modelling organic shapes like people and animals is actually one of the hardest things to do, so it really is best to start off simple and work your way up from there.

Good luck, and just enjoy yourself, be patient, and reread things and go back if something doesn't turn out right first time.

right words you found little helper bunny!

these are basics! everyone of us here needed to learn these!
the tut on my site was more aiming on a special effect or modeling theme i used on my jetbike model!
mentioned it only cause the beginning explained the setup for Box modeling.

oh thanks yall soooo much.:applause: i went back and went through the nurbs part of the documentation for cinema 4d and guess what.... IT MADE SENSE!!! i actually understood that part but now i just got to figure out how to take advantage of it and model using it. also, i know some about box modeling where you make it and editable mesh, then use the selection procedures, then extrude, rotate, bevel, scale, and more to it. i think that's it about box modeling (please correct me if i am mistaken). i think i might be ready now for some modeling but only some easy stuff first. i will post them here once i get something done that's presentable. lol that might take a while. also, to all that's helped me... thank you.:wavey:
