Picked up ArtRage a few weeks ago to try teach myself to paint. Feedback, paintovers, suggestions are all welcome as I really want to learn.

The torch would be a much stronger light source than that, especially with respect to his arm and the cave wall.

I kind of agree to the comment above, the torch would probably light the wall more, but the way it lights the character would depend on how he is holding the torch, in this case I think it's rpetty well done.

Anyway, can I ask you a favor ? Could you post a little "tutorial" of how you made this piece ? Nothing special, just how you aquired basic shapes and painting techniques, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback. I am going to experiment with the lighting tonight. :)

As for a tutorial, I'm only a couple weeks into ArtRage so can't really teach much as I haven't sorted things out in my brain yet. Most of my previous experience is in sketching, Flash and Photoshop. I did this after looking at a tutorial posted by an ArtRage forum user. You can see the tutotrial on his site http://web.mac.com/btinsley/iWeb/TinzArt/Intro.html Maybe it will inspire you also. :)

More practice. Think I will do something with simpler lighting next time, not sure how to handle it here -torch light, ice walls, and water running on the floor all reflecting. Love to hear from a pro how you plan lighting for something like this. All crits welcome so please help me improve.
