Hey guys I just wanted to post a firendly reminder about the final entry.

And a clarification.A key element for the judging is the modeling not the rendering.

You have two full days to render the model.

REQUIRED RENDERINGS:

ORTHOGRAPHIC RENDERINGS:
Orthographic renderings ARE REQUIRED for EACH TYPE of entry and should be rendered at 800 x 600 OR 600x800.
NEW RULE: (The proportions can be changed)

The Orthographic renderings should be rendered from TOP, SIDE, BOTTOM

IF you do a BUST representation, you need to do 2 sets of Orthographic renderings:

One set with props (hats, scarves, helmets)
ONE set without props, and NO TEXTURES and OR SHADERS.

IF you do a FULL BODY representation you need to do 3 sets of Orthographic renderings:

ONE FOR THE BODY

One set with props (guns, cloaks, Power Loaders)
One set without props

ONE FOR THE HEAD

One set without props

WIREFRAMES:
A 3/4 wireframe renderings is REQUIRED for your entry of entry and should be rendered at 800 x 600 OR 600x800.
NEW RULE: (The proportions can be changed)
TURNTABLE ANIMATION (VOLUNTARY).

I recommend to aid the voters a turntable rendering of the model. It would have to be done in QuickTime or Windows Media at a resolution of 600 x 400 OR 300 x 200. The render might be done as a Quickshade or Beauty Render.

BEAUTY RENDER.BEAUTY RENDER:

For each image you should post:

Title of Model Completed[Model Images]
Comments
And should be posted on both the individual WIP thread on this master thread.

Final RENDERS should be rendered at 1600 X 1200 OR 1200 x 1600 in JPG format.(Post only as link) A smaller 800x 600 OR 600 x 800 image should be posted on the threads. Please add a brief text description about your piece.

NEW RULE: The beauty render can be with or without textures. If you post a rendering with textures.please post another one WITHOUT them, so we can judge the topology

COMMENTS:

I have worked hard on this project. I am glad that I took part in this challenge. It gave me a chance to learn things that I probably wouldn't have done until the next challenge. It has also given me some insight on what I need to work on. And that I still have a long way to go. This has to be the best model that I created.

I know that the beauty render doesn't match any of the scenes in the movie. Though I did model him in the time frame the movie was made. I hope that that was ok.

Anyway I did learn alot. I hope this is to your liking. I would like to hear your comments on my thread. Tell me what you think of it.

Well I didn't end up taking this as far as I originally had planned cos I figured it was a bit ahead of me. Overall I'm happy with how it came out except the likeness isn't the greatest, but it looks okay.

Well here is my final version of Peter Venkman. I will be posting the props and prop wire frames in my Peter Venkman thread, along with a full body picture of him with his proton pack since I was only able to upload 3 images in this thread.

I had fun doing this challenge and look forward to the next one.

HARDCORE MODELING CHALLENGE #8: Lee - Bust

Lee, Enter The Dragon WIP Thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=208&t=485688)

This was a great project to work on and develop my character modeling and texturing skills. There is always room for improvement though.

Time to complete: 12 days or around 50-60 hours. Most of my time was spent texturing the face and trying to capture the likeness of it with modeling details. This was difficult to do when bringing the model back and forth from Z-Brush to 3d Studio Max 9 because of the perspective differences.

This was a great learning experience for me. Thanks to CgTalk for creating competitions like these to encourage artists to learn more and progress with their art.

Texturing and rendering are my weak points, but I'm trying to improve.

Below are as far as I got, I'm happy with the current progress :) Topology is rubbish at the moment but when I do get round to finishing it I will sort it out. Really enjoyed this challenge! Ok, finally done, it has been a blast this contest. I have gained alot of feedback and great critiques from you guys so i have to thank you so much. I couldnt work as much as i said i would in the model ( my frined introduced me to batlefield 1942... damit ), but i did worked alot on him, and i think its possible to notice the progress on my wip thread.
I think i have seen the beginning of gladiator a zillion times, i wish i had a blue ray or HD-DVD version of it, trying to see all details of his costume, and the horse one was extremly dificult.
During the course of the project i decided that i would make this a game model, so all details were extracted from high poly objcets to create the normal maps. i tryed to keep a relatively low polycount for what would be considered a current gen model ( it has 6000 tris and uses 2 maps sets of maps with difuse, normal and specular ).
When the model was done i could hv started another model, but i couldnt resist to model his horse ( what is a general without a horse? ) so in the last 2 days i have being working on the horse. The horse has 2500 tris ( more or less ) and also uses a normal, difuse and specular map.
I have started to model his dog, but i noticed that it would be too much information, since the topic was the actor itself, so i droped it off and started to make a turning table video. I have uploaded it, but right now its still waiting the aproval, so hopefully i will edit this post with the link to it.
Anyway, it was a great comp, lots of amazing works, this hardcore modelling challenges are really awesome, maybe one day pixologic decide to sponsor one with a copy of zbrush 3 as a prize :P.
Thanxs for all the feedback

HARDCORE MODELING CHALLENGE #8: JOHN MCCLANE (DIE HARD-1988) - FULL MODEL

(MY WIP THREAD LINK (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=208&t=479083))

Thank God! I've finished the model before the deadline. Actually there are lots to do but i've decided very lately to make a full body for this model and most of the model has been done on last ten days on and off. I couldn't decide about the pose and changed it few times. Then came up with this pose. I don't have time to get feedback about the pose so i hope you'll like it. Textures, hair, pose, hands and fine details still need work, so i'll continue this model on the WIP forums after the challenge.

About the beauty shot,
I've worked on the textures and shaders on last 2 days and made the render tests on last day. So i don't consider the shot as a beauty render exactly =)
Please see the below nontextured renders- which has a better lighting setup- and the turntable to evaluate the model.

It was great to participate this challenge guys. I enjoyed it a lot.
Thanks for the great support and nice comments on my threads. They mean a lot to me.

There are some great entries on the challenge. It will be hard time for voters to pick one of them.
Good luck everyone!

Here are the wire, plain, and beauty renders for my Holly Golightly bust model. I'm estimating less than 20 hours involved in this. I wasn't able to get it into Zbrush again for final sculpting, though Zbrush was used for texturing. The majority of modeling was done in Lightwave. Could have done better, but lost time on it due to real work. I'll probably continue on this model when I get time again. It was a fun modeling challenge. There is some great work by everyone here, nice job to all who participated.

"I bid you velcome!" Wow, just about made it! Great entries by all! Congrat's on Marc (visionmaster) on his Lugosi as well! Love the details!

Had a lot of fun modeling everything (not so much fun experimenting and rendering w/ VRay :( ). Definitely learned a ton from this challenge and hope to perhaps join the next one.
