Hey everyone. I'm new here, so I'm secretly hoping I've come to the right place to become a better artist.

More than comments, I'd really like some critique. But instead of pointing out flaws, could you help me fix them? =) It'd be appreciated, cause I have no clue what I'm doing... seriously. Look at the bad blending... ><

Done in 2hrs in OpenCanvas. First attempt at realistic painting. Techniques and tutorials would be appreciated. THANKS <3

There are a few differences anatomically, but that simply comes with training your eye. You can really see them (and thus help you get used to "seeing") by placing grids over your painting and your reference.

As for the tones, particularly skin tones, you could definitely use some blending. Everybody has their own technique, and some are better than others. I personally like to use extremely low opacity airbrushes or soft brushes and use the eye dropper to pick up various tones throughout...and just go over and over and over until I like it. It's kinda slow, but it usually works out well.

By the way, I really like the texture of the headdress (even if it isn't realistic), has a real thick acrylic feel to it.

Thanks a lot nblarson! I think I'll redo this entirely and use a grid for both images to co-ordinate the proportions properly.

Mm~ Nice technique for blending! I'll give that a try as well.~ And thanks! Though the reason the head dress still has texture to it is because I got lazy. haha, well thanks for saying it looks nice =)

Your comments were appreciated! <333

Here's a random image of the style I usually draw in:
