View Full Version : Planar Texture Projection Depth
plotz 03-12-2003, 11:16 PM I'm texturing a polygon object that's box shapped with planar projections in a layered texture.
I need one of the textures to be a decal, which only projects onto one face.
For the life of me I can't seem to keep the projection from going all the way through the object from the front (where I need it) to the back face (where I don't need it).
Is my only option to create separte UV's or map individual faces, or is there a projection depth option I'm not finding?

There _is_ a depth option for projections in maya.
Look on the projection under the effects tab. Uncheck "wrap". If you change your persp angle you'll see the 2d planar projection icon switch to a 3d projection icon. You'll still have a front projection but it'll be only applied in that volume.

Unchecking wrap isn't working for me.
Maybe I need to carefully pick through my layered shader again and make sure I'm not doing something else wrong.

If I were you, I go to component mode, choose the face(es) I want to be textured, assign this selection a new material (from hypershader, not RMB menu) & then assign the texture UV mapping to the mesh & put the texture for the new material.
the other faces have another material.

Okay, I was suffering from brain fade.
Unchecking wrap works, I just had to re-position the projection.

Actually it probably worked before, but the open-gl display wouldn't update.
Prior to version 4.5 other ogl update issues were present like environments not changing when orbiting around an object (open gl seems to have update problems related to 3dPlacement Nodes that are used in projections and environment maps)
