Title: Handling Chaos
Name: Kirsi Salonen
Country: Finland
Software: Photoshop

I never ever realized the madness that classical painters had when they lost their appetite, sleep and social life when they did their works. Now I do!! This piece took such a long time to make, probably two months all and all.. and it's gone through like 1000 differents phases during that time. And this is all done from scratch in PS CS2.
--
Learned a few hundred new things as the painting process went on.. like how the skin actually doesn't have any green in in, it just looks like it has, but it doesn't. It's just different tones of brown and grey. It was a huge revelation, believe me!
Oh.. and the horse.. the horse is really a magnificent animal to make, learned to understand its muscles and nature more than even before. Also fell in love with those faint tones in the background, it's fun to get sunk into distant or small objects and then realize as 100% that the root or boot-strap is the size of a fly's poo.
--
Ok, maybe I should tell about the idea more than my silly blabbering about how hard it was to make this..
--
Chaos is the horse. Why? Because it's a symbol of freedom, servant, power, wildness, speed... And it's unpredictable, furious and gets scared easily, like the water's surface breaks and spreads as you touch it.
Peace rides on Chaos. He's blind and weak, tired for constant survival, he gets cuts everywhere he goes. But his wings help him escape from the places he can't survive. But now he's found himself tangled with Chaos, which he thought he could handle and master its will.
--
But Chaos cannot be controlled. It doesn't bow or bend for anyone.
--
The woman is War. Her heart is fierce and brave and she believes in control and victory. She believes she's doing the right thing by capturing Chaos and saving Peace.
Beneath them flows The Red River, filled with the blood of those who tried to control the things they can't. The stream is endless and eternal.
--
Hope you enjoy the piece as much I enjoyed finishing it!

I love the symbolism--it's beautifully painted but the story behind it is just as impressive! I can see how much care and love you put into painting this!

Wow, I was sertanly surprised when I openned this thread. I was expecting your typical, Frazetta copy cat, but man this is great. They sure are tearing that horse up, but he still has some lovely flowing locks, lol. Great work kisalon!

thank you everyone!! Your positive comments means the world to me.. *hugs*

LWPerkins: Thank you for saying that.. I really loved making this, so I'm glad it shows :)

Bradyscott: hehe.. I know this has those classical elements, but was surprised you mentioned Frazetta.. To be honest, I haven't even studied his works, only seen a few. But nevertheless I'm glad you didn't find this similar to his works, that would be quite disappointing to me as an artist.

Thank you also for appreciating the story behind this!

My secret desire is that someday I could make a whole story that could combine some of the characters I've made along the years and ideas together.. create that own world that has its ways, rules and mystical stories in it :P
