View Full Version : HDRI Tips & Techniques
mecha 03-12-2003, 05:31 PM Hey all,
I know it's only been available for about 30 seconds, but has anyone come up with some good methods of using C4D best new toy, HDRI!!!
A general brain dump here please people:
How to make your own HDR maps?
What materials to use?
Lighting?
Radiosity settings
etc
etc
etc
I will post up my discoveries when I make some.....

make HDRR maps with a camera a Nice clean metal globe, and HDR shop.
Most peple dont' have those so just download them off the internet, there are well over 200 easy to find royalty free ones people have shared, I know thta, because that is what my collection is up to.
just put it in the colour or luminace channel like you would with normal texture illumination if your using GI, if your not, then use them as environments to get the nice reflections, ADVANCED RENDERER IS NOT NEEDED TO GET FOR THIS. Lighting, well for GI you don't really need any, thus you don't need a specular channel either since the HDRI and reflection will do that all for you.
Radiosity settings are not really different then they were before.

here is an example of HRI and Arndt's translucent plugin working together, reason for the simple boring HDRI image is so tha tI didn't need to make a bunch of shadow caster lights which is what is needed for translucent to work. So this way I only needed on shadow caster, behind the cube shape, and I used stochastic rendering to prevent any flicker. eventually I will have a test using better HDRI and using Ditools to make the shadow casters.
