View Full Version : newb willow WIP crit plox
penthoy 04-27-2007, 07:27 PM I'm a really a newb... please go easy on me, it's my second or third try, the color of her face don't seem right and it seemed to be some "weirdness" in over all, i can't figure out why, can anyone let me know anything that pops out or anyway I can make her look better? also please tell me what it feel like when you look at her. since I wished to make her look weak but prettend to be strong, yet loyal to the person she wished to protect, she was a sidekick/supporting character concept in my story. Thanks for any help~ >.<

Hi there I would try to help keep in mind tho I'm not an expert so is just my thoughs on your art. Well the eyes are off a bit and too far apart and they seam at an odd angle. Something that help me is to draw a strait line across the face just as a guide for where the eyes should go later you can get rid of the line. The eye browes also seem off a bit too, the same thing for eyes apply to them too.
If you going for anime style and it look like you are the nose is good the mounth is fine I just think it need to be moved a little bit closer to the nose. Hard to say much about the coloring as it do not seem much done but the face looks dirty like she was in a fight it look also like you use too much smuge tool. I think you should work on tweaking the face more befor you do more coloring on it. The body is very good only the hand or the finges seem off a bit. I hope that helps some I'm not an expert so you may want someone eles thoughts on this.

The right (our left) eye should probably be shifted to the right a bit...also something seems strange about the shoulders, particularly her left one. Try overlaying the basic skeletal framework of her body, which should help point out irregularities.

no no, your comment is very helpful, things that i didn't see before now I see it, I'm seriously a newb, I don't even know how to move the eyes in by the simpler tools like the laso or liquify, so I almost need to repaint it that takes an hour or two... it sucks... anyone knew easier way to fix this kind of problem?

Exactly... the arm that haven't shown... I've notice it after I finish the sketch... it is supposed to be holding a spear like weapon, but the cloth is supposed to be "goes up" or either the arm is to extend from below... now I don't know how should I fix it, it could be either way, as long as it look natural that might not distroy the stance and center of gravity. and it's best if she can hold the spear like weapon. thanks again for the comment, sorry for the double post.

Ok I made some guide line to show what I would do with the face. Also if you want to move any part of your picture around make just the laso selecton then go to edit and pick free transforam tool or just trasforam tool. About the eyes too the space between them I think is one eye legth roughly, but in anime things are not always made to be right because its a cartoon . I just made the guile lines base on the average anime style becuase that looks like that what you are going for. You can always make your own guide lines by just drawing on a layer above your work I hope this is helpful.http://imagehub.geekfury.com/files/15/guide-lines.jpg

I dont think the sketch in red is well drawed, In my opinion you should place the right eye (our left) a little bit more to the right, and the left eye upper, as well as the right eyebrow, place it a little bit down
You need to learn to analize your pics, the proportions and the factions of the face. A skill that I learn from Linda Bergkvist (a graet digital painter), is that if you mirror your paintings you should see the errors on them, I learn from you
Another thing, I dont know the size of your canvas, but try to work big (3000x4000 pixel avarege).
This is my WIP, go comment please
