1/ I use the "old" version of Pyrocluster, and now I keep getting a message that my serial is wrong. It seems that if <I hit cancel, I can use pyro, yet this is a warning...

2/ I don't find the "Edge Melt" tool in the Structure menu???

Should be right under Edge Cut. It'll only be active if you're in edge mode.

Has anyone else had problems downloading the mac update? I've been trying for the last 3 hours and all i get is "could not connect to server" message.
It's a tiny bit frustrating cos i'm bustin to play with the new HDR support :(

...and another bug and minor issues:

1. I've got no new "Identical Noise Distribution" option in the Radiosty part of the Render Settings. I may be doing something dumb :insane:

2.No Edge Melt tool for me either!

3. Clogged up my Start>Programs menu with a new Cinema 4D folder, with the Uninstall Cinema 4D Release 8.1 option. Why couldn't they just use the original folder in the Start menu, and what is the betting it uninstalls the whole of C4D and not just the 8.1 update!...

The full blown HDRI feature is a major plus, but it looks as if some minor issues have been let through. I would certainly like to know about that new uninstall option from Srek.

Cinema 4d XL 8.1 (Update from 8.012) running on Win2K SP3.

Hi,
sorry i can't say anything regarding the install process here. We have to use what the Vise installer offers us, since it is the only one allowing for installers build for Mac and PC likewise.

Sorry, but I have EdgeCut and then Edge Selection to spline. That's all.
I did check, and it is indeed C4D 8.100 Oxygen.

I was/am in edge mode with an edge between two triangles selected. ???

Thanks for the speedy responce Srek...but if I ever want to uninstall C4D, I'm going to have a big clear up operation, trying to get rid of whats left from the original install. Surely you are the ones that assign the paths for the install process...not Vise! You was able to do it with the Version 7 updates, why not now?

Anyway, I've updated my original post, I've got no Edge Melt tool either!...I'm probably not worthy enough ;o)

Cheers

And when I try to install the 8.1 over the existing copy (one never knows) I'm blocked by a message that C4D8 has to be uninstalled completely.
Sigh...

Can't help you in regard to PC, but for edgemelt, its only there in edge mode, fifth option from the bottom, if you simply right click its 6th from the top. indispensible tool, this should help you guys get rid of those triangles, especially since untiangulate doesnt' work, this one forces it so as long as you have a valid quad divided by an edge making two triangle it will work. I reccomend that you all add a short cut using the command manager so you can use it even faster.

as for HDRI mmmm, and by using light exclusion with HDRI you can get light dependent shaders to work, using a plugin like Ditools they will use the HDRI infomation, so you can make a lightdome for those lights.

Also for those without advanced renderer, HDRI still works in the environment channel so you can still get those great reflectiosn and highlights without using GI. I'm finding I don't see a reason to use anything else really for environments now. also you'll notice the is an exclusion checkbox, this allows you to exclude your environment from areas where it can reflect and object so if there is a cube in your scene being reflected, there will be no environment visible where the cube is reflected.

Kai, a number of us have had the same problem...some options are not available.
I'm wondering actually if some of us have got the right Windows update, because in my Plugins folder I have a new folder called "cinema4dsdk". I've never used or downloaded the sdk, and the thought has come into my head that it may be a development version of the update.

Wow Maxon! I didn’t expect all these nice goodies to be in the 8.1 rel.

Well, the improved OGL we got wind of the Cinebench test, but true HDRI support plus improved flexibility w/Stochastic mode rendering, well I’m very pleasantly surprised!

Were these improvements ever announced, or did you Maxon guys just keep a tight lip on this?

Cinema comes with it's SDK for all plugin developers, although in order to use the SDK plugins (mostly just repeats of inbuilt tools for examples) you will need a complient compiler.

Giving out the SDK with the program is fairly standard procedure, so no, the version you have is the correct version.

as MDME sadie said the SDK was with both 8 and 8.1 so thats not it, but to me it sounds like oyu have no features, which suggests that it didn't install for whatever reason, one note for everyone, many features will not be visible is you using your own layout. since your layout is CUSTOMISED.

AdamT
03-12-2003, 06:37 PM
Even if the layout is customized the features should show up in the menus.

Several people are also having this problem over on Postforum.

LucentDreams
03-12-2003, 07:00 PM
if you customise a modeling menu, then edge melt won't show because itsa not in the cutom menu. things like HDRI should be in there though, othe rproblem seems to be a lot of people installing modules after installing 8.1, this is backwards guys. install all modules then patch .

LucentDreams
03-12-2003, 07:11 PM
couple of extra features not realy mentioned unless you read the addendum, fog is now visible in the edito when using an environment object with fog activated, luminace is sort of displayed in the editor now too.

And if you check in either the illumination tab in the material editor, or the basic tab in the AM, you;ll see you can increase the resolution preview of a texture in the editor, great for backgrounds and those new HDRI images your using on sky objects. :)

One warning about the use of the higher res previews, note the memory notation nxt to the resolutions setting, this indicates how much graphics memory is needed to display a singe texture at that resolution, so someone with a 16Meg graphics card can dream on about using 2048x2048. I would recomend only using that setting with 128 meg memory or more, also note that 1024x1024 is quite large as well. Don't use a setting higher than your actual texture images settng or you will slow down editor performance needlessly.

one download location?? no mirrors?? erm.. HELP!! :D anyone know of somewhere else I can get the update, the link isn't working for me :annoyed:

Cheers
03-12-2003, 07:18 PM
Kai, the update is at fault here!
People should not have to uninstall to get the update working...which it does not! I'm not running any customised menus, so I know that is not the problem.
Just the fact that the update routine leaves you two options to uninstall C4D, proves to me that this update is below par. I now have a version 8.0 uninstaller, alongside a 8.1 uninstaller. Using one will leave the other one, and a good manual registry cleanup to boot... I can't believe the Maxon guys left it like that, because that would just mean very little respect for the customer!

Cheers

seems to me after support, most got theirs working, with exception to the Pblurp thins, which was a mistake, I don't see why yours isnt' working, but don't think I was insulting you I was simply trying to offer ways of fixing it, you need to relax. But I see no reason to attack maxon and the testers who aid it was working fine since your system isn't working at all, yes a lot of people have had problems, most of them got it solved through maxon support.

Has anybody had success un/reinstalling 8.012/the dud update and then re-applying the updater? It seems that problems do persist.

Oh, and another scary thought: my copy of bodypaint is due to arrive shortly....should I expect more troubles if I install it on top of 8.1 (when it works)?

LucentDreams
03-12-2003, 07:48 PM
I don't think bodypaint should be a problem thwere weren't any changes to BP. As for reinstalling are you using the 8.012 Early bird or the Factory release 8.012?

Cheers
03-12-2003, 07:52 PM
Hmmmm, I still see plenty of Windows users on the different forums, with the same problem Kai.
I don't think I attacked anyone, I've been critical which as a customer is my perogative.
I appreciate you help Kai, but you must remember some of us also work in the trade on the technical level...and being told to make sure the update was pointed to the right directory etc, etc is a bit of a slur on our intelligence...although you are not to know ;)
I know a poorly put together installer when I see one, and IMHO this update is one...

I'm using (or was using) 8.012 factory release on Win2KSP2 ...and I was careful to install the update to the correct directory (i.e. where CINEMA_4D.exe is - in my case F:\MAXON\CINEMA_4D_R8).

The net render client has had some issues under OS X, i.e. it doesn't work....

Does this new update fix this, or must we still wait. I was told to expect a fix in a couple of weeks, that was almost 2 months ago.

guys i seem to be having problems with this update.
using xp sp1
seemed to install ok, right location etc. displays as update in about etc.

get hdri support by the looks of it (can load hdri probes)....don't get edge melt icon (on default menu setup)...also don't seem to get texture display resolution settings (checked basic and illumination channels or in material manager)....am i missing something or is this a fault with the package, if it is a fault do we have any ideas about resolving issues....DO NOT WANT A REINSTALL....this will be a MAJOR pain in the ass and major inconvenience to say the least (and an unacceptable resolution)....any ideas guys....your patience is appreciated...
