Considering NewTek's booth at NAB, I'm surprised they didn't announce it there.

That's because it wasn't ready back then. LW 9.2 is ready now. :)

Just downloaded the official 9.2 update this morning. Just need to make time to install it.
Anyone who has 9 and didn't particpate in the Beta - there are some radiosity speed performances you're really going to appreciate. By far one of the best overall updates the LW comminity has seen in a while. Really looking forward to seeing what 9.5 brings.

I downloaded 9.2 this morning. ...I have to finish my current project before I have the time to do the install and check out the new features. I wasn't part of the beta testing, so I've been really anxious to get my hands into some of the new goodies in this update. I can't wait to dive in to this one!
...FPrime 3 and now LW 9.2...

Bah.. when has Newtek not shown something at NAB or Siggraph that wasn't ready at that moment. Way too many times. I guess their Tricaster thing was supposed to take center stage, consider it was NAB (and not Siggraph).

Lightwave is back and it feels good.
The radiosity speed is impressive, the nodes are very useful too. Great update.

Lightwaves radiosity has gone from being nearly unusable in most situations to being one of the fastest radiosity renderers out there! The render improvements in 9.2 exceeded my expectations and is proof that Lightwave has a very bright future ahead. In my opinion 9.2 is a bigger improvement over 9.0 than 9.0 was over 8.5.

Agreed
9 was more like 8.9
9.2 is a workable version. I had to use 8.5 modeller. I think they have turned some people to allternatesoftware by not bringing out some fixes ...a 9.1 would have been appreciated.
Version 9 was like a drunk cripple in a dancing competition.

The beta testing was pretty insane - but WELL worth the effort! Rendering is smoother, results are better, and the node shadding is expanded, but it wasn't all for layout - modeler got attention too. Overall - a well rounded update to keep pace and well worth the download.

Is there a universal binary version for OS X yet?

The Universal Binary version of LightWave is in Open Beta currently. Registered owners of v9.0 can sign up for Open Beta at NewTek's Registration Site (http://register.newtek.com/).

I agree. That is where I started, and now it's almost like re-learning the app.

i didnt even know lightwave was still around! maybe its just that i first used lightwave by the time 3ds max had already come out, and started using maya also around the same time, but the program seemed long in the tooth to me even in 1998.. i guess there are still sci-fi shows on TV with lot of space ships, so lightwave will always have a place in the pro-3d world :)
