UltraPose is a FREE pose librarian and pose-to-pose key framing assistant for Maya.

Features:

-Skeleton Mapper: a key word based skeleton mapping system that allows poses to be applied across rigs with different name structures.

-Externalized library files for team based work flows. Make a library full of poses and trade with your friends, coworkers and even enemies!

-Root filtering feature allows poses to be applied with extra smarts. Apply the poses of a walk cycle without affecting translation.

-Export and import of actual key framed data for transferring animations between rigs/files that use the same skeletal map. Uses custom format that doesn't work like MOV format where every frame gets a key. The exact key frame data is preserved!

-Pose-to-pose key frame assistance buttons. Select or key frame the entire rig from one button, even if the items are hidden.

-PDF manual!

Julian,

That's really great! Thanks for distributing your tools. I can't wait to start playing with ultraPose, specially now that you made a manual for it. See you on the platter!

Hi Julian-

Looks like youŽre doing me a huge favor here. I was planning on writing something similar in the near future, but if this works the way I want it then IŽll be spending more time animating than scripting (=very cool!).

Anyway IŽll try it out and give you some feedback.

keep up the good work!

I guess ultraPose ainŽt workinŽ on v4.0.. I tried it this morning and was only getting errors... :(

BTW, julian, about 2 weeks ago I also wrote a tool similar to your skeletonMapper. Mine works with character nodes, and allows a similar attr->attr char mapping technique. If anyoneŽs interested they can send me a private message and IŽll send it out.

Uh, didn't get very far here either, with 4.5 on W2k.

"New library..." generates a "Cannot find procedure "saveFileDialog" error. Just for fun I opened an old library, re-mapped the skeleton, but trying Add poses generates a "Cannot find procedure "stringFirstChar" error.

Sorry Julian...be glad to help fixing it though.

I can't seem to get it. When I click on the link I arrive at the .Mac site at Apple, asking if I want to join...

"To sign up for a .Mac Trial account, you must be on a Macintosh computer." Whats this?
Could you put on highend, please.

I have just put version 1.6.1 up that fixes a scope issue that prevented some local procedures from being recognized (stringFirstChar, etc...). Libraries from previous versions of UltraPose should also work now.

And I guess not all PC users are allowed to see that portion of my site for some reason known only to some marketing dolt at apple. 1.6 will go up on Highend3D today as soon as I can get to work and put it in ZIP format... and after a good game of WarCraft X, of course!

That was a quick fix Julian - cool. And it's (mostly) working now - only little glitch so far is an error message when calling up the Skeleton mapper from the ultraPose UI ("Warning: Flag '-l' may not be used multiple times") However, it doesn't seem to cause any problems.

A minor request for that select rig button? It's almost like it's not needed. Even if only a couple of joints or controls are tweaked for creating a pose, the whole rig needs to be selected to Add it anyway, right? (Took me awhile to figure that one out.) So why not just auto-select the whole rig when pressing the Add pose button. And the rig should be deselected right after a pose is added to make it easier to get started on the next one...

Also, the rig needs to be selected to Apply a pose too, so once again, why not just auto-select it?

My .02. Great script though. Mighty nice :)

The Select Rig button appears for those instance when you'd like to:

1) See what the map thinks is your rig

2) Select the entire rig to work with it in some way such as in the dope sheet or graph editors. This is mostly important when you have a rig that exposes features as needed, like an FK/IK switching arm that hides its non-active controls.

Now, as for adding poses, you don't have to select the entire rig... sort of. UltraPose will always "drill" down from your selection point to find items that are a match for your SkeletalMap. If yoou set up your rig so that all controls exist under some topmost node (such as a general position controller), then that is all you need select to add or apply poses.

This gives the convenience of grabbing a single item to apply wholesale poses while also the ability to grab a sub-section of the rig to apply partial poses.

Thanks for the not on the warning. I had seen it before and I know that does no harm but I will have it removed shortly just the same.

BTW, it's now up on Highend3D for those who had trouble accessing it from my .Mac site.

Ah yes, the master controller does the trick. Neat. I'd been trying to create poses for isolated controllers, failing, and having to select the whole rig. Forget my previous suggestion....ignore the man behind the curtain...

Again, quite a nifty piece of work. Thanks Julian.
