Hi guys,

I've looked at various scripts and attempts so far to do a material converter. What I'm looking for is advice on the structure it should take - and also any tools that can help to link properties between two or more classes of material.

Right now I have a few ideas and a long printout of properties in excel to wade through.
I was thinking of doing it in 2 stages: the mapping and then generate scripts for each type of conversion.

Any ideas?

Alex

Maybe this page will give you a head start.

There's a script that will convert materials to Mental Ray.

thanks slebed,

wow that's a long-winded script! All the scripts I've seen so far seem to do this by long lists of parameters and only convert one way. I was thinking that some sort of structure or array might help a 2-way conversion. I realise that this might be irreversable (eg some params simply don't translate or need to be approximated).

In an ideal world what I need is a script that will convert between VRay, FinalRender, MR and standard max materials, preferably on a sceneMaterials level so that a scene can be converted in one go.....
