a nice piece, I like the glowing tendrils and the depth the trees give to it, good stuff

Anyone think the character is too dark? I was thinking about trying to do some texturing on the trees, but not sure how to go about it.

Adding a groundplane or something to setoff the character would probably help a lot. I think that the biggest problem with this piece is composition and focus. The first (and only, honestly) thing that you see when looking at it is the wings. I'm not sure that "wings" is what you were trying to 'say' here.

My suggestion would be to recrop the piece and add 30%-40% more to the bottom. This will sort of center the character and give the eye a bit of buffer to really focus on what you want. I'd fill this buffer zone with roots from the trees or something interested which would be fun to draw but not too distracting. :)
