Simple question...I'm trying to use a dirt b&w texture as a mask for an image on top of another image. I cannot get the entire image to paste into the layer mask slot. It just creates another layer. i can select just part of the image..but when i select and paste the entire image, it just creates another layer.

Select and copy the layer, create a new alphap channel, CRTL+select the alpha channel, switch to the mask, hit delete, unselect all, invert if needed.

Hold Alt and Click on the layer mask, then you can paste anything here

Thanks guys...Holding Alt and clicking the layer mask was the answer...so simple...heh

Apply image will get the job done, with the added benefit of blending modes.
