View Full Version : Hi, I'm new, here's my first serious piece (Nude)

Hi, I'm a graduate student who likes to do art on the side, and I just got my Wacom so I thought I'd test it out. I started just doing sketches and stuff to get a feel for it but this is my first serious study, and I'm realizing how HARD skin tone is :P. Anyway, this is what I've got after 1.5 hours (I'm slow, I know ;))

Sorry it's so low resolution, my hosting resized it (grr). Any crits would be most appreciated, like I said I'm just a guy who bought a tablet one day, the last art class I took was in highschool, so any help would be most appreciated.

Oh, I did this using Artweaver (hey, it's free)

to be honest: it is almost unbelievable that you did is in just 1,5 hours as a first tablet sketch ... makes me feel very small

Well, if it's any consolation, it's not my first sketch, I've been playing around with it for about a week...? This is just my first real serious attempt...

As for the piece, I can already tell I need to fix the back (it dips too low), and the hair needs a lot more highlights/lowlights. Of course, the arm isn't done and I still need to put the eye in (eyes always frighten me, they make or break you)...

Okay, I took a break for a bit, then looked at it again, and realized her face was really messed up (flipped it upside down, not good). So I redid that, fixed the back, worked on the shadows of the arm, worked on the hair (still not happy with that), and added the eye. Also touched up the buttocks and worked on the tone of the lower body some more

I dunno, maybe this is it...I kind of like the lower arm unfinished...

Tweaked the face a LOT, finished the left hand, put some little finishing details here and there...
