View Full Version : Lamborghini Murcielago WIP
ThirdEye 03-12-2003, 01:05 AM here's my current project i'm working on at school in my spare time, it's still a wip, only the front part of the car has been modeled so far, i hope you like it, C&C please :wavey:
ps: this is my 1st car ever and now i can say that it's impossible to think that C4D doesn't have the proper tools for modeling a car as someone said in the past, everything's there.

NIce!! - I'd go with the alloy color. It seems like the inside profile of the rim between the "spokes" isn't perfectly round, I dunno.. And the bolt holes have a bit of weird bumps around them - but these minor crits are nothing. It seems like whatever you decide to model&texture, a head or a table scene or a car - you always manage to keep your high standard and quality, and that makes you a very good 3D artist my friend.  :applause:
Hi,
nice work Thirdeye.
I think you will have to redo the numberplate soon though ;)

It's really simple, and it has been done by Per Anders (mdme_sadie) for his silly scooter: an inverted fresnel multiplied in the colour channel, a hdri map blurred in the environment channel, a fresnel in the reflection channel, that's all. :wavey:

ok I have a HDRI question - is HDRI like radiosity (when it comes to animation) I mean does it flicker from frame to frame?
LucentDreams
04-21-2003, 06:12 AM
yet again mis interpretatyion of what HDRI is. HDRI is an image fromat. Is it like radiosity? no. However if you use it for texture illumination thatn your are using it in radiosity, thus it will have same problems (worse because of extreme contrast) since its still radiosity. you can use HDRI as an environment So you get the nice reflections and highlights without the flickering but then its only a reflection its not illuminating the scene
pixelbot
04-21-2003, 07:04 AM
I guess I should have been a bit clearer, I meant when using HDRI images as illumination would the animation flicker like radiosity and you answered that - thanks. I don't have access to the advanced render module (just the basic C4D r8.1) so I haven't tried this, but can I use HDRI images as an environment?
thanks
Per-Anders
04-21-2003, 07:20 AM
in order to use an image for illumination you will be using radiosity, without radiosity you wont generate any illumination. radiosity unfortunately flickers.
you can use hdri in the environment channel or as a texture on other objects (a sky obejct for isntance) and have it reflected directly as you would any other texture, though this isn't what we normally call illumination (even though it's reflected light), it's hard refleciton. it wont flicker, just as any other ordinary bitmap wont flicker.

Here in Italy the screws are four... Btw it's covered in dirt thanks to 100% original C4D GI artifacts :D As already Mash said... "how many C4D users does it take to screw in a lightbulb? 4, one to calculate the GI solution and 3 to get rid of the artifacts in Photoshop". I already calculated the solution, now i need 3 people to get rid of the artifacts in ps :scream:

JIII: it's only a matter of determination, never be satisfied with what you do. Every time i make a project, a head, a car, or whatever, i look at a ton of photographic references and to what others have done before. The goal should always be to make the best thing possible, make something close to what others already did and surpass that level if possible. The photos observation is always the key. I still think this car can be improved, if you wanna see the best of the best look at www.mackevision.com, they have the best cars i've ever seen.

Damn man that is beautiful I like the silver one better. of course I havent seen an uncompressed red or black one either.
you could always make it into like a car dealer scene and have them in like all the diffrent colors. but thats kind of a work around with out choosing what is really the best.
Well i can't see to much if anything to change but... thats probibly because I did not make the wire or do the textures or anything. So I can't look at it like you can and say geez maybe I need to thicken that a bit.

ThirdEye
05-02-2003, 01:47 PM
Thank you all a lot. I think i'll go for a silver one, it's more elegant than the orange one and it's more clear than a black one. I excluded the red colour because red is the colour of Ferrari's. The only possible colours for this kind of metallic shader are silver, black and orange. All the other colours of the Murcielago (blue, yellow, green, white) are made with a different kind of material, a pearlescent one, more plastic, less reflective and not so stunning imo. I have to model the brakes and a couple details, then i'll make some renders to composite in a single pic within some frames. I think i'll finish everything in a week. There's no need to rush now, 90% of the work is done, i wanna finish the remaining 10% in the best way possible. Then you'll see it in the cgtalk gallery :)

Congrats, ThirdEye! I've been reading that WIP all along. Nice work. And I can't think of a greater compliment than being accused of posting a photo.

Ciao Thirdeye! You are really great!
Only a question, for the material what do you mean for "inverted" bodhi nut fresnel. I know the last one but I don't know what is inverted in this case. Thanks!
Congratulazioni! :applause: :applause: :bounce:
P.s. I'm building a porsche carrera thanks to KevinA and to you. I'll post very soon a wip

Inverted = delete the grey colour in the middle of the fresnel gradient and invert the position of black and white. ;)

I used the same method that KevinA explained here in this forum, make a search and you'll find it.
