I think that a very difficult part for any 3d modeler (who is making a real object) is to make the model with the exact same dimensions as in reality. BUT finding blueprints and dimensions etc. isn't always possible. And here comes the bad moment that you have to be based only in photographs. What do you do in this situation? Relaying only on your eyes?

now more specifically... i found out about the analysis menu that photoshop cs3 extended has. There are many options to measure an image part etc. You set a measurement scale and then you measure each part of the photograph. But i think that you can only get correct results with this method, if you are looking in a satellite photo...or sth orthographic... or sth like this :). Is this possible with an every day photo...with a normal lens? I think perspective ruins the hole idea...

i'd like to hear your thoughts... wouldn't be just great...to just take a photo of an object and afterwards...import it in photoshop and find out all the dimensions? :)

I found this approach very usefull.

Works when you don't have to work extremely accurate, when "it looks OK" is enough.
