View Full Version : First Polymodeled object with MAYA (C&C welcome)
lowlight 04-02-2002, 05:33 PM Hi all,
I already posted these over at Highend3D aswell, but wanted to share :). These are my first attempts at polygon modeling in MAYA from a reference drawing So, other than several imperfections that may stand out to you all, I just wanted to post so that I could actually say that I've "posted" to the forum before. Enjoy, and feel free to comment:rolleyes:

BTW, the image of the front view doesn't have the updated "bags under the eyes" look as the other two images have.

The profile looks very good, from the front he suffers from a proportion problem. His eyes look too close together, or it could be that his head is a little too round from the front. Very good for your first attempt, adjust the proportions and you'll have a winner!:)

That's better, I thought someone would point that out. Yep, it is too round in the front top of the head....in fact, the entire head is slightly bulbous from the back although you can't see it. It's hard to fix due to odd limitations of "Backface culling" in Maya and silly mistakes I made regarding improper normals facing. I turn it on, I still accidentally select things in the background, I turn it off...well you get the picture. Thank you for your feedback, I'm going to start work on a new head from scratch toinght using a diferent technique altogether.:scream:

why didn't you follow your reference for the front view? It looks correct while the model has squeezed together eyes and a cantelope head :)
The ear is very flat.
I like the nose.

Actually I did. The only thing is that I wasn't able to correct the shape of the head before I merged/smoothed the face halves. To do it now would prove to be nothing but a waste of time and energy for me (can't seem to correctly one side without accidentally selecting the other, even when backface culling is on). Thank you for pointing it out though...I'll have to make sure to pay more attention to my references in the future.
