Hey Alvarez, this is really nice!
I can now see how great your stuff is! I've been thinking of order some videos from you for awhile now, and now I'm sure I will, because you teaches really cool stuff!

great that you give out some free stuff.
But the quality s*** permanently in the videos,
this disturbs and makes it hard to follow your
work. :(
Don't know, perhaps I'm the only one with
this problem. But the video gets clear and
after 4 seconds it is just some fat pixels and
it fades back to the video. This happens all
4 or 5 seconds :(
[edit] this problem just appears in the "image planes"
video

Hmmm... I'll see what I can do. Maybe that
one got corrupted somehow. Sorry about that.

Alex! I have learned so much from the Gnomon tapes its ridiculous! I can follow quite easily when having a person instruct (even on tape) rather than through a book - and it's well known the that the 3rd party books on Maya are few and far between.
Keep em coming!

Hey Alex. I own about 6 of your videos so far. I was wondering if you have a tutorial on Water dynamics like wakes and foam on the water like that caused by waterfalls or speedboats. And if you have anything on tracks. ie Snow tracks(walking.running through snow) throwing out little show chunks etc etc... Vehicle tracks in snow/sand/mud/grass... Anything like that?
Oh and, would be great to see a video stepping you through the production process from start to finish. From conception, to storyboard, to modeling, lighting, proxy animation, FX animation, switching out proxies with highres models, rendering, compositing etc etc, and then the final product. Maybe make it a series of tapes? I don't believe there is anything out on video like that yet. Aliaswavefront has some stuff similar, but not quite that thurough.
Also, I'd like to see a tutorial on complex layered shaders like Skin, for example. Good skin is hard to come by!
Thanks! I might be buying some more vids soon once i scrape the dough together. ;)

Hey Alex, im a big fan of you. Your work is so incredible. Right now, im studing Maya by myself. Right now, i make my porte folio for a 3D school (Montreal Canada). Im little bit anxious right now, because the school is expensive (its not really the problem), but i dont really now if the school is enough good. Maybe i should pay for Gnomon video and continue to learn by myself or go to the school. Dont know what to do.
Anyone here is in the same situation? How is the video?
Another thing about the video. Should i buy it in other, or i can buy the kinetix one and after the modeling one?

Can't quite make out the tone of that last post...
Well, I appreciate all the positive feedback. If anything, it makes me feel good about the dedication to education I have made since founding Gnomon five years ago. Plus, it makes me want to continue to produce more... we have some exciting things in the works right now and I think you guys will dig them...
In the meantime, for those who don't know, we have lowered prices on all 24 of our tapes from $69 to $59.
Hope this helps.

I think he's refering to the big names in 3d education, Alex Alvarez and Alex Lindsey.
I'll ask again Alex... any plans for these videos on dvd? I've gotten a couple of your videos and they're great but hard to view at parts due to bad video quality...

You're asking for top secret information.
I'm afraid you know the rules about such info.

I am a strong supporter of your video but I was wondering can you guys come out with a few more vids about optimizing rendering and rendering techniques.... since it is the final image which we look at.
Thanx..

Hey Alex,
I really love the videos from Gnomon. I have to complain thought, the Organic Modeling Videos had this guy say "ok k ok k ok k" in the background for the entire 100 min. I am sure you could find a place to do VO work for trade. May-be a post/graphics house would trade for maya training. Also getting a little closer to the screen when dealing with dialog boxes would be a great help. Like in the Total Training After Effects videos. Keep up the great work.
