I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem when setting up and texturing a model. I'm am currently working on the textures for my most recent head model. It is cylindrically mapped on the Y axis. I'm using color, spec, diffuse, and bump maps with some layering.
I'll explain my work flow a little for this process and then I'll state the problem. I have the model loaded in layout with the maps loaded and applied. I have Photoshop open with the texture I'm currently working on. As I get to a point in PS where I want to see how it will look on the model I'll save my work to the map file I'm using in Layout and then switch to Layout and replace the image there with the one I just save saved form PS and then render.
This process works really well most of the time. The problem is that sometimes after replacing the image map in Layout the surface settings get screwed up. I noticed that my test render was not coming out as expected. On inspecting my surface channels I found that the map files were getting switched around. That is to say an image being used in a layer of the bump channel would now appear in the specular or diffuse channel. Or I might get 2 instances of the same image map used on different layers of the bump channel whereas they were unique before. Easily fixed, but it's getting to be a pain in the A**.
Just wondering if others are using a similar work flow and whether or not you've experiecned this, and is there a work around other than inspecting the surface channels every time you reload an image map?
Thanks.
