View Full Version : What am I missing? (texturing newbie)

Well, here's the thing, I have this school project and I've created a not-so-pretty UV-map as seen here:

http://user.tninet.se/~avh744q/UV1.jpg

Next, I used texporter to get a colored version, like this:

http://user.tninet.se/~avh744q/tex1.jpg

All is well so I figure I'll try and apply that image onto the model, just to see that it fits etc. However, it comes out like this:

http://user.tninet.se/~avh744q/gimp1.jpg

so obviously something is wrong..

After I've applied the texture, I get this in my UV-editor, which I assume is causing the texture to.. well not fit at all:

Basically, I would like to know what I've missed, and how I can make the texture fit according to the UV's so I can start painting it, thanks.

what kind of model are you using?..if it is an editable poly, make sure the mesh smooth iterations are on 0, make sure the mesh smooth modifier is applied after the uvw modifier..i've had problems in the past with that, took me a few to figure it out..

Check the following things.

1)thats the mapping channel for the uvs is the same as the the material your applying.

2)by any chance does it create an auto-mapping modifier on the top of the stack if so delete it?

3)the fact that you managed to get what you did from texporter means that somewhere in the depths of everything, you mapping coords still remain.

Dont add another uvw map modifier before or after you apply your material again, it will lose all your uv info. if you put a new one in your stack *after* you set everything out in the first place, simply delete that modifier to return to what you had.

4) see if anyone makes more sense than i do :-)

keep at it

After you used UVWedit, this model has the right information.
your must use UVW MAP again,so it lose the right information.
