Here is a pic inspired from the manga GUNNM.
Model & render : 3dsMax5.
The first one is the "pure" picture directly from max render.
The second one is photoShopised :) .

This is a beautiful image. Extremely well modelled and posed. You can really tell a good image such as this when it conveys such emotion and mood. This reminds me of AI more than anything cause I havn't seen the Manga you speak of

Fantastic Work, Very insprirationl and the pose she is in, feels very emotional, which I love.

Fantastic!!

Did Comp that background in later, and lit her based on the image?

I like the Top image very much, the second image is wonderfull as well but it feel as though you color corrected it too much, there too bring and they fel burnt.

other than that

Amazing work. Matter a fact. . . . I'm going to finish modelin my woman I started a bit back.

The movie isn't full-length, it's only about 3 minutes. It was done in Strata Studio a few years back, so it doesn't look amazing, in terms of character animation. If someone has some space, I could upload it. I think it's close to 100 megs though.

Beautiful work!
I've been a fan of Alita for years, and I always thought it would make a great CG peice. I'm glad you took the time and effort to do it.
The composition is great, and the fact that can't be animated is awsome. I appreciate your effort into that.

If anything, I find the scale kind of arbitrary. I'd love to see something in there that can put it into perspective.... The feathers sort of do, but I've seen giant anime designs with feathers, so something else would help. The other is how thin her "skin" is. Right now there's no depth, which eludes to her being REALLY big, which she's not.

I'm sure it's a bit of a style thing, but there's my 2cents.

That is a really interesting idea you have going and the technical execution is excellent.

I really like the way that the wings fade into the backdrop in the first image. The 2nd image actually appears more grainy. Very nice feathers, very interesting combination of nature and technology.

Well, at first this piece is really awesome by technical aspects (modelling, textures). I really like all the details on wings, her hands and rocks!! Hairs looks fabulous too!

Sorry to say that as a first one, but from artistic view there are severals mistakes which gets this artwork really down:

1) the composition is really weak part of the pic (central composition works rarely - not in this case)

2) the lighting of an angel is quite flat so she looks really 2d i.e. wings has almost no shadows at all, I think the fill light/sky light is too strong. Another problem with flatness of your pic is that you made everything only in frontal plane, I would go for three planes: front-mid-back.

I think that even just by adding stronger contrast (by changing lighting) on the wings shloud break uniformity in composition (both sides of image seems symetrical because of the tiny contrast differences).

If you think Im saying bullshit then nevermind.

Just my two cents...

03-13-2003, 11:55 AM
mmm very nice, I really like the first one! :bounce:

the colours in the Max render are much nicer and more dramatic... the earthy hues works well with the red to imply a "forsaken" kind of mood.

The photoshopped one has a confusing hot/cold artificial-looking colour scheme, that is a bit less comfortable on the eyes (compared to the first one) imho.

anywayz, Great modeling all round :D :D

And the WIP was very interesting too ;) :bounce: :bounce:

Every time I log on to CGTALK I am amazed by the amount of skilled 3d/2d artists, which submit their work. Such quality and talent and you’re one of the better ones I’ve seen here on my daily visits since early January. Excellent work, I personally preferred the dulled out coloured version with the sepia colours rather than the first two you submitted as final. Probably because I tend to like dull colours, :\

The work is amazing, the concept is what all people dine for and the execution was done brilliantly. Good work.
