a newbie question

when I rendered 500 frames (.iff sequence) animation in Maya, opened a new composition in AE, set the framerate to 24 fps, Import the sequence footage, oops the number of frames drops down to something about 400, with the complete animation, so I have to stretch my layer timing to about 125%,

anybody can tell me what the heck is worng, I don't think I should stretch anything!?

Did you set Maya to render at 24fps? The two programs (Maya and After Effects) obviously need to be set to the same frame rate or it won't match up.

sounds to me like your Maya project is 24fps, you make a new AE comp and set the composition frame rate to 24fps, but the FOOTAGE INTERPRETATION is probably defaulting to 30fps.

Select your footage, hit CTRL F to open the interpretation panel, and make sure its coming in at 24fps.
