Title: Shiba Ryotaro Memorial Museum
Name: Alex Roman
Country: Spain
Software: 3ds max, Photoshop, VRay

Hi there!
This is my last personal work. It is a library-museum designed by Tadao Ando.
Since i saw it for the first time i always wanted to reproduce it.... now , it's done! ;)

About two weeks for modelling, texturing, rendering and compositing.
It's done with 3DsMax, Vray and PS.... and hope you like it.

Beautiful work! The thoughtful camera angles, composition and lighting really set this apart from the many bland architectural works posted here. I really love it, and Tadao Ando's work provides a great subject too. :)

Very inpressive work, but my only crit is the books (all are perfectly sorted, you can try to put more disorder to make the image more real), anyway great work.

Hiya! :)

Sorry for my late reply but i've just arrived from a trip....

Fisrt, THNX very very much to all of you for these wonderful comments!

There are eight different kind of geometry for the book packs, twelve different materials for each of them and a lot of patience ;)
It took about 5-6h hours to render each pic...

Thanks again, folks.

Alex.

Wow ! Wow ! Wow !

I am a huge lighting fan and your images are fantastic ! Great mood, great colour, great composition. My only crit would be the book on the left in the second to last image of the ones you posted. It seems to have its back texture map flipped in H and V. But apart from that AWESOME work and perfect compositing !!! It is really inspiring and I think you really caught the spirit of the architecture.

Is it maybe possible that you tell us a little bit of the work you do in post ? Did you use a lot of layers and do manual re-work or did the renders pretty much come out of 3d as they are in the end ? Also, many people seem to offset their colour channels to get this real-world photographic look. Did you apply this technique for your images, too ? They look soooooo real.

Please enlighten us ! :-)
Thanks alot !

Edit: Oh and I forgot to ask. Is the DOF 3D or done in compositing ?

i really think this is a absolutely amazing piece with fatastic perspective. everything is 5 star although - just one comment - are alot of the english titles backwards on the spines? im sure i wouldnt want to wait for the render to correct it so i forgive the little mishap - unless it was purposeful

Very good technical artwork, looks like a photo. But my question is: what is the interest to copy a photo, except as for an technical exercise? It remember me the american "hyperrealist" movement painters in the sixties, replicating photo in acrylic media. In this case, photography should be a faster media to show your work!

05-29-2007, 03:36 PM
Hey, Thanks a lot guyz&girls! :)

I donīt remember how many of them i did... - i think it were around 4500. They're all vrayproxy and around 6.000.000 polys in thw whole scene.

I used vray physical-cam to be able to control f-stop, shutter, white balance, etc... and it was lit with several IES files and physical sun & sky.
However some color balancing, levels adjustment, etc... was done in PS

@LXC2000: Totally agree but this was a photograph, lighting and compositing exercise. In this case, the whole structure place was already built and my work is a personal CG version but that "hyperrealism" is often wanted for most of the un-built viz projects.

BR,

Very nice image... But something is not quite right: the relative dimensions of the table, the chair, the steps to climb the book-wall..

I have never seen a library with all book so nicely fitting in square spaces.

If you wanted to trick your audience, I think you did very well, because the feeling is really good.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Nice work! Just one comment tho, I think the depth of field for some of them are too strong. I think you can try tuning it down a little to allow a more smooth transition? I don't know, it's just my opinion. Overall, it's very good!

i am new to the cg world and i had to join a cg forum for a class assignment. since i have started roaming thru threads and forums i have found that i have a lot of work ahead of me. i love this picture, as a newly evolving 3-d i got a few question that i would like to ask u.

how long have u been modeling?

what are some skills or techniques that i may need to make it in an artistic 3-d environment?

do u have any advice for a new student in to world of 3-d designing?
