View Full Version : Mental Ray Normal Map problem

Hi,

I don't know why, but it seems I can't render Normal Maps in Mental Ray.

Here are some images showing the problem:

This model was rendered with the default scanline renderer in 3D Max 9:
(The Tangent Space Normal Bump Map works Fine.)

Without making any changes from the scanline rendering, here it is rendered again in Mental Ray with the normal map not working at all....

Could anyone please explain why this is happening?

I don't use Max, so I can't help you with your specific problem, but in Maya 2008 I can render normal maps with Mental Ray (version 3.6.1.6). It gives me a worst result if compared to xNormal (http://www.xnormal.net/) realtime view, but it works.
