View Full Version : modeling column
tafit 04-18-2007, 09:31 PM I would like to have help to modeling this column. I am a http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/307/colonneuz9.jpgbeginner in 3d, I use 3dsmax. I will want to know which technique used to make this type of form, have I to use a loft? or another technique.

I myself use Maya but I think the workflow isn't that different
I'd use a curve, drawn to the pattern of that column duplicate and move it over a couple of times and loft between them

Create a spline in that curved form and extrude it to get the basic shape for one row. Convert into a editable Poly and refine the shape, when satisfied, clone it and attach.

Uhh, sorry, there are two of this topic, and I think I posted into the wrong one.:) Scrimski is right, spline based modelling is the answer. Just set the thickness, and make it enable in viewport and render at the spline's render tab.
