View Full Version : Problems using a Wacom tablet
jramauri 04-18-2007, 01:36 PM Hi guys
I just downloaded Wings to give it a try. But it seems it's hard to navigate on screen using a tablet. I searched on documentation and on preferencies window a place to configure Wings to use a tablet properly, but I didn't find. Any of you could give me a help?

I assume you're talking about the spinning out of control, and extrusions that seem to head toward infinity. I've had similar problems. What I discovered is that you can work with a tablet, unassisted, but the motions are not intuitive. Any motion away from the center of the tablet is a constant motion; playing with rotating the camera is a good way to get used to the oddities of it. I've seen no patch, and I doubt there is one; wings deals with relative mouse motion, and tablets don't give that information; they give position. More importantly, perhaps, I'd reccomend a mouse for most Wings work anyway. Having multiple buttons and more precise relative control is worth a lot more (at least to me) when using Wings than the absolute positioning afforded by a tablet --- that type of control is just less useful in R3. If you've got a small tablet, keep it handy --- it's kind of nice for extended teak-mode sessions --- but working only with a tablet is more trouble than it's worth.

Thanks for your reply, Sam.
I changed the stylus mode to mouse mode, and it worked reasonably good on Wings. The problem is that in mouse mode, the pen skate a lot on the screen. And you lose agility when you need to switch to other applications. If there's no solution for this question, I think I will leave Wings away from my planes then :(
I use my tablet with Maya and its 3 button navigate system without problems. In fact I use my pen for everything. The mouse I have on my computer stopped working some months ago, and I didn't replace, cause it's not necessary to me anymore...
But it's a pitty, I'd really want to learn Wings and Blender. Anyway if someone else have some news about the tablet issue, please let me know.
