View Full Version : Adobe Releases CS3 products
jcbray 04-18-2007, 09:57 AM "Adobe Systems’ long-awaited Creative Suite 3 (http://www.adobe.com/creativelicense/) is hitting streets today, adding the CS3 moniker to popular creative applications – from both Adobe and the former Macromedia – Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Contribute. These new Adobe CS3 applications are available as Universal applications for both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs and support both Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Vista."

My main gripe with this whole release is the purchasing options. They have officially released Creative Suite 3 Production Premium for resellers, but you can't actually get the bundle until June (due to parts of it not being available yet), and there is no upgrade plan because it's a different bundle to the previous video package.
This basically means anybody needing the video production bundle NOW doesn't have an option for 2 months.

Has anyone heard what they'll do for people who've recently purchased CS2? I've seen no mention of any reduced price / free upgrade path.

From reading posts on the adobe forums I'm under the impression that if you bought from Adobe after CS3 was announced you should be entitled to an upgrade. Phone customer services.
If you bought elsewhere after the announcement of CS3 and have proof of purchase that might swing it for you as well.

They haven't released Production Premium to anyone because it's not done. They just released the beta versions of PPro and AE CS3. How would they have boxed software sitting in a reseller's warehouse if they are still in beta with the main apps?

Contact Adobe's customer service. They are very good to deal with in my experience.

But that's what I mean. It's available for sale now on resellers' sites. They just fail to mention the tiny fact that it's a preorder purchase only.
(Don't mind me... I'm just still annoyed that I went through an entire purchase process over the phone, then they discovered I couldn't actually get it yet!)

If you order the old Production Studio Premium you get a free upgrade to CS3 Production Studio Premium when it ships.

The strangest thing is their upgrade paths...
If I get Production Premium off of my Production Studio bundle license and get the web premium off of my Studio 8 license I get all of the same software as I would with a single Master Collection combining into one license, plus double Photoshop and Illustrator licenses for $100 cheaper.
Go figure.
I've cut back on my freelance work, and am not really ready to upgrade anytime soon... but their upgrade paths just seems a bit goofy.
I'd love to play with Photoshop Extended... to see what it actually does as far as animation and UVW work go, and the UI tweaks look really great!

Damn, in PS palettes still get half-sec delay when refreshing. This bug(?) is from cs2 times, and its still not fixed. Unfortunately Im using it too often, so Im staying with cs1...

It's a free upgrade for people who purchased CS2 from 27th March onwards. That's what I read on their site a week or so ago. The date sticks in my mind because that is the exact day that I bought the CS2 version!

There really isn't a significant price reduction for recent purchases. I upgraded to Studio Premium CS2 in January and upgraded to the Master Collection CS3. Considering the mass of applications involved, it didn't phase me. EDIT: Just saw/read DMacks post
Adobe does have a generous upgrade path for people with much older versions of apps or suites. I kind of prefer that. I'll probably sit on CS3 for two more versions before considering upgrading again.

I was informed this wasn't the case by the reseller. I've just checked the Adobe site and you're absolutely right! Thanks Dave... that's a load off my mind. Now to give a certain reseller a callback! :)

You can imagine my relief when I checked my invoice for CS2 and it said 27th March! Came on the back of a heavily delayed order so it seems there was a silver lining.

Adobe Releases CS3 products and charges Britons 50% more for them.
There's an effing headline!

I think the 3D implementation in CS3 is a BAD BAD joke :( .
Purchasing the extended version is a waste of money IMHO.

Maybe they port the 3d implementation to After Effects. At least there it would be useful.

I'm not saying that it could not be useful, it is just done in an awful way.
It always puzzles me what R&D teams these big companies have.
