View Full Version : Composite in Lightwave or After Effects?

I have a digital video still shot of a parking lot. I have a CG creature walking on the ground using shadow catcher objects and fixed front projection maps. I don't like the CG compositing in Lightwave. How can I render in two layers that I could composite in After Effects? Right now the front projection maps are blending the shadow objects into the video. How can I get that same effect doing my compositing in After Effects instead of Lightwave?

Running Lightwave 6.5
After Effects 5.0 both on Mac

If it a simple composition, you could pull it off in Lightwave, but otherwise, you should do it in After Effects.

I suggest to do the following thing: you make multipass rendering and you render the object and it's shadow in Lightwave. But you render no background. It would be quite difficult to create a realistic shadow only in After Effects (you could, but would have to draw it ba hand (a mask shape) and move it by hand, not very accurate). So render the the object and it's shadow and composite it in After Effects with the background. To control it you could also use Alpha images. Or simply make the background "unseen by camera".
Tell me if it worked
