Title: Tengu Concept Remix
Name: Jeremiah Ryder
Country: USA
Software: Photoshop
Hello everyone. This is my interpretaion of a Tengu. Since I have been on the asian theme, I thought I would do a Tengu concept. The spark originated from a Tae young Choi peice called "Death" and I thought what an awesome idea. Well with that said, thanx for looking, C&C is most welcome, cheers!

i love the mature treatment of brushstrokes and definition, it leads the eye to focus on the important optical centre of the creatures head,u've acchieved a beautiful sense of depth by contrasting fine modeling against silhouette treatment, excellent work 5

Well done man,
This came out awesome! The paint almost has this chunky feeling to it. I personally would have add a touch more color variation to the clothing. Very creative man, very slick armor set. Keep them coming man!

Hello Toledo
Thank you for your feedback on this peice. I appreciate you lending your eyes and thoughts on it. If I could ask, can you go into a little more detail about " Someway is hard to read" . If
not that is cool too, thanks for your input. Cheers:D

Amazing piece. Love the colour theory. Great character. Nicely textured. Great composition... there is a strong element of graphic design... the way the tail comes off to create almost a border and frame the image in, but not fully because the tail also leads your eye into the character.
Well done its fantastic.

Really cool looking character concept! I like the body positioning, the angle of view and the way the creature is carring its self. Nice work.

Hello Toledo
Thank you for your feedback on this peice. I appreciate you lending your eyes and thoughts on it. If I could ask, can you go into a little more detail about "Someway is hard to read" . If not that is cool too, thanks for your input. Cheers:DSince I had a slight amount of difficulty reading the image I'll answer too.
I at first had to stare at the bird-creature for a minute to figure out what was going on. I think the problem is happening with the bird's tail feathers. I still can't figure out what's happening there. Are the feathers bent underneath the bird or are they bent to the bird's right, or are they bent backwards (I'm guessing that the black draped thing are tail-feathers).
Second thing is simply the anatomy of a bird's legs and feet. Bird have such weird legs that when humanized it looks very awkward and requires a lot from the viewer to interpret. I remember as a child looking at humanized bird characters and asking my mom and dad what was wrong with the birds legs. Usually birds legs are covered up by their breast feathers. But when they have pants on, it takes on a whole new strange appearance. I'm always intrigued with illustrations where birds and hoofed animals (and rabbits) are humanized. I like seeing the many different solutions that artists and designers come up with to make things look sensible and “real”.
Other than those things, nothing else seems confusing… at least to me. There are places where the subject matter gets a visually very lose… but there’s not much to critique abut that as it’s usually due to artistic-license.
Keep it up!

Hello FRENZIEDmind:)
I value your input on this peice. I agree, it is a very difficult balance, of transitions in art. First being the mechanics of an animal VS human elements. Probably more so in the animal mechanics area ( for me at least). The second on this peice would be graphic to dimension, is another tricky transition, something I have been toying with recently.
I was hoping with this peice would demonstrate strange transitions effectively. And I know it is the job of the artist to be able to convey an idea in the same effective manner. The graphic feathers moving in front of the feet creating an overlap, I was hoping to give some placement of dimension and frame the picture.
All in all I now believe art should speak for itself, so I shouldn't defend my mistakes but look to see them.... So, by your input you are helping me and others problem solve, investigate and find solutions when these types of questions arise. Thank for the time you spent I appreciate it. I will find new methods to solve these issues.
Cheers Friend:D
