Title: SubmarineCaptain6
Name: Marshall Almeida
Country: USA
Software: Maya, Photoshop
This is a character I'm developing for a personal project. I'd be interested in any critiques, but I'm especially interested in crits of the hair, as this is my first attempt with Shave and a Haircut.

Hi, I'm not a character artist in anyway yet :buttrock: but your character is really nice, I love the proportions & pose. About the hair, it looks gooood, is it really your 1st attempt ??:D

I really like it. I think the look on the captain's face is excellent. It's ljust ike he's about to tell me ALL about his submarine and seems to be a 2 hours long story...hehe.. I like the cartoony look on the face also... he might be an ex-strongest man in the world but today he's a submarine captain :)
Really nice. And just like Rrenderman mentioned, you can nearly her him saying: "... and that's torpedo chamber, you see? And if you push this little button..." :D

He is what I imagine the captain of the old Beatles' song The Yellow Submarine would look like. Great job. The texture and face really look good.

great concept and character. Like everyone before me has said he looks like he's ready to just start telling of his tales.
My only gripe (and it's very small) is that he's a submarine captain... shouldn't his hat have an anchor/dolphins and not a bird? I mean i'm just basing this off the US Navy's interpretation of a navy logo, so you do what you want! :)
Great look.

Excellent image. Don't suppose he's Scottish? :D

Hey all, thanks for taking the time to reply and for all the positive responses. This character represents a lot of "firsts" for me, so seeing this warm reception is very gratifying.
MSaber, yeah it was my first attempt with Shave and a Haircut, I'd used Maya's hair tools some before (actually on the same character) and was having memory issues and a lot of crashing, so I decided to buy Shave and re-do the hair. It was a huge improvement over Maya's hair tools both in ease of use and rendering time.
jtaddei, I based the design of his cap loosely on a U-Boat captain's cap: Link (http://www.warelics.com/images/subvisorF.jpg), that's where the wings came from. Maybe not a good design choice (something to think about anyway). Thanks for pointing that out.

Hey! Really nice work! I think the hair looks perfect. I imagine this guy's hair IS actually a little wiry so I don't think you need to change a thing. Great job!

Ah yeah I figured the eagle was probably of Nazi background (was kinda hoping I was wrong though). The fact still remains you've done an amazing job.
p.s. my dad was in the navy for 26 years and my bro for 8, here's a reference pic to base if you want to go for an influence with a little less "sting"... well I guess it's all relative, the U-boat nazi reference may be a bit strange as he's got the big red chops as if he's irish or something.
