i'm sort of disappointed with the quality of stuff in the mental ray gallery... you'd think they'd have the absolute cream of the crop, wouldn't you?
EDIT: referring to the non-motion picture galleries.

The gallery's quite old, most have still been made with Mray 2.1

I'm curious if those Asterix pictures at the bottom of the Motion Pictures gallery (http://www.mentalimages.com/4_1_motion_pictures/index.html) were entirely rendered with MRay, or just the environment / water. Because that is some damn nice toon rendering otherwise.

I've seen better mental ray work. I used to look at mental ray work with high expectations. Not anymore. Times change, technology changes. There are better things on the rise coming out for the 3d scene so...

There will always be better work displayed somewhere else by some other artist. Some of the work done in metalray that you have seen my be copyrighted and require a fee to publish on the mentalray site. On the other hand some of the other art work you have seen may have been done as a composite of other renders or not entirely mentalray. Discreet's 3dsmax produces mass amounts of excellent art work, yet there site shows little if any images. Plus, showing HQ images on their site wouldn't do much for advertising anyways, most of the mentalray advertising is done by AliasWavefront and Softimage.
